I've got 2 new 2408WFP's on my desk right now. The one i received first has a bright pixel and the left side is considerably brighter than than the right. The "replacement" has no stuck pixels but the uniformity issue remains. (it even seems a little worse.)

The brightness issue is most noticeable in grays and whites, so it's quite in your face during coding and browsing unfortunately. Looking at, say, a google search result, the white background looks like a gradient.

So, should I just stick with the Dell and deal with it? After spending almost $600 on a monitor i did not expect to have an issue that was so noticeable to the naked, untrained, eye.

If I get on the phone with dell and demand a refund, what monitors should I look at from here?

My uses, respectively:
Gaming (not too much FPS)
Browsing
Video
Coding

After going through two 2408WFPs myself (along with a few other LCDs), I ended up with an SX2461W from here: http://www.eizo.com/purchase/direct/monitors.asp They are refurbs, but mine arrived with zero dead/stuck pixels, less back light bleed than I any LCD I've ever owned, and it is way nicer than the 2408WFP. Up to you whether or not you want to risk a refurb or not. I was a little skeptical at first as well, but after talking to the sales guy at EIZO I got over it and I'm glad I did.

I have dual 2408WFPs and both have the uneven brightness problem you're talking about but it isn't as bad on either of my monitors as you're describing it. I use a black background in Visual Studio, and I generally don't full screen my browser though. But I do lots of other stuff full screen, and the only time I notice the backlight bleed is during boot.
