Also, is wide screen the new standard, even for video games?

At the egg there is asus 1920x1080 monitors which are 21.5 inches.

I am probably gonna order one of these since they have 2 models available. One is $199 and the other is $209.
They are 16:9 so they will be pretty wide.
I feel for the price they really are the best monitors. It is either spectre or asus in the 21.5 inch at 1920x1080 and I would rather get the asus monitor.

Acer makes this 1920 x 1080, and Asus makes two models also. I believe the Asus' have a 2ms and a 5mg gtg while the Acer sports only a 5ms. I have the Acer, it has a hdmi input. One of the Asus monitors does, and one doesn't. I can't see any ghosting or other issues. I'd recommend one of these over a standard 22" 1680 x 1050 simply because the 1080P resolution looks so good on this monitor.
If you don't have the gpu power I would stick with the 22" and it's lower resolution.

I have that and for $169 it is a great monitor. the text is very good and it has almost no backlight bleed. also input lag is almost zero. it suffers from the usual TN panel crappy blacks and viewing angles but there is no avoiding that with those types of panels. I have tried about 5 or 6 monitors and it looks like I may be keeping this al2216w.

The new Asus monitors look pretty darn good for the money. They're undercutting everyone else's inflated prices by around $100 and I expect to see them do some damage in the marketplace. Their 24" in particular looks like a possibility for me to install as an inexpensive HD display in our small living room. This combined with the big settlement in the LCD price-fixing case should mean lower prices for us all. Hope so anyway. Sometimes deflation is a GOOD thing!

I picked up an HP w2207h last fall for $249 on sale. Its great. It is a glossy panel, but has very deep blacks and vivid colors as a result. No descernable input lag or ghosting and an infintinly adjustable stand (most in this range don't have anything like that). Plus it just looks good sitting on the desk.

every one of those I looked at had bad backlight bleeding. also these monitors are known for their lag which is much worse than most. another thing is the hdmi seems to have issues on some nvidia cards and wont display the right colors.

It has almost no back light bleeding (much less than several others I tried from ASUS and Samsung) and no input lag (the ASUS was the worst there). I also have a GTX 260 and the picture is gorgeous - don't know what you mean about issues with Nvidia (and I use an HDMI/DVI cable). I calibrate it with a hardware calibrator and the color changes very little from what it had out of the box - pretty accurate to begin with. If it had ANY of those things it would have went back - I'm damn picky. Check some reviews on it. Check the 50+ page thread about it at HardOCP's forums. If it sucked that much I don't think they could hide it from so many.

Basically, ask someone who owns one.

well other owners is where I got most of the info to begin with. the HDMI issue is a pretty well known one but if you arent actually using HDMI then it doesnt matter. I even looked at a w2207h tonight at BB and I could clearly see backlight bleeding across the top much more so than surrounding monitors. of course this can vary from monitor to monitor even with the same panel. I might give one a try though.

there are probably dozens of different Acer 22 inch models that have been on the market so the exact model might be more helpful.

How does your monitor handle resolutions lower than 19x10? Does it have 1:1 pixel mapping? Does it put black bars on the sides? Does it just scale the image, and does it do a pretty good job also?

OP, I highly recomend the LG 227WTG. It is a glossy panel and in my opinion the best 22" monitor in existance thus far. However, if you are in a very bright room it probably won't look as good. I am able to adjust my lights in my computer room to get the reflection down and the picture up to top shape. I know it goes on sale sometimes and it isn't the most affordable, but you DO get what you pay for.

Looks like it is on sale right now. I'd check it out in store...

I do not run it at any resolution other than 1920 x 1080. Since that's 1080P Blu ray movies fit the screen without black bars. I'm sorry I can't answer some of you questions, since I run Windows and all my games at that resoultion also and I have never experimented. I did buy an ATI 4870 1 gig to ensure everything like CoD4 and The Orange Box, nd L4D etc. run smooth.

I don't mean to single you out or pick on you. But telling this person what you paid doesn't help him when he cannot get one for that same killer price. It almost rubs it in... I doubt that was your intention though. Anyway, that is a nice monitor and you got one hell of a deal on it.

No worries. I think you misunderstood what I wrote. :p

$210 AMIR is a great price for that monitor. I bought one @ $289 from BB over the summer, and just bought my 2nd for my SO for part of her Xmas present.

What settings do you use on yours? It's a nice monitor, but I haven't quite got the colors to the point where I'm happy with them.
