Hi guys, decided to opt for a widescreen monitor with 1680x1050 res.

I will use the monitor for watching movies and gaming every now and then.

I was looking at the samsung 205BW, but there maybe something newer out there?

Looking for good price/performance.

I have this monitor, and I can tell you it is gorgeous and very fast (no game ghosting).
Nice viewing angles (Image doesn't darken when I move my head) and excellent color vibrance.

I was not an LCD advocate, but after buying this LG 226WT, I am sold. I actually unknowingly bought what seems to be the best 22" TN panel out there currently for the price range, which was 380.00 at best buy. Check out the sticky at the top of the video forum for XTKnight's LCD thread. Very informative.

Good Luck!!

I have just bought a new 22" DELL E228FWP for 351$ from DELL's web...it's on rebate....nice TN panel for that price.
It's for my sister.
I prefer S-IPS....you know, once you S-IPS.....

I can't stand 22" TN monitors, no matter how good they're supposed to be.

If you dont think you'll notice the color shift or the 6-bit color or the huge pixel pitch, then get the LG 22" TN monitor that keys has. It really is the best TN out there.

Most people are attracted to 22" TNs because it's more size for a better price, but IMO they're just not as sharp and clear as a quality 20.1".

I have an S-IPS 2007wfp that I am willing to part with FYI.

I like the extra size without having to go to a higher resolution that would require me to purchase an even more overpriced video card. :p Plus, 24" seem to jump in price pretty signifigantly.

I have the Samsung 215TW and I think it is great, I came from a Dell 2001fp I think it was called, and this 1 is much better.

I'm really happy with my E228FWP so far. I got it for $270 out the door, so it was kinda hard to even look at the competition with such a big price gap.

I got a ViewSonic VG2230wm, mostly because I got it from real cheap. And I really like it, but like others have said, TN panels are not exactly the very best LCD can offer. I can tell that colors look slightly better on my 17" LCD which I'm also using in dual monitor setup. I still have to tweak the 22", but I'm am yet to get it to look as good as my 17".

They offer great bang for the buck, though.

Well...

24" LCD has

1. Higher res, ie 1080p
2. 2+ inches
3. Higher grade panel, IE: s-pva/mva

24" LCD's are in a league of their own, so they are going to have a price in a league of their own.

Are there any options out there for a 20-22'' 1680x1080 LCD that isn't TN, but still offers good performance for games, movies, etc.? What is the price range of the higher quality 1680x1080 LCDs?
Thanks

I really feel like splashing out and getting that 24" Dell, but the biggest drawback is the expensive video card I will have to get to work the damn thing!

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm still looking around.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Samsung Syncmaster 226BW 22" 2ms monitor?

For sure there are, but only 20" panels. ALL 22" panels are TN.

Price range for 20" non TN panels: 399$ - 699$

For 399$: DELL 2007 WFP (now mostly S-IPS, bang for your buck, otherwise, S-PVA)
For 550$: NEC 20WGX2 (AS-IPS, very good panel, glossy finish...that's up to you, I cannot stand it)
For 699$: APPLE 20" Cinema Display (S-IPS, very good panel, handpicked)

Those are the one I would consider...but of course there are some more, the Samsung 215TW ( 21" good S-PVA panel), some ACER and ASUS S-IPS model...

If you are not going for a TN panel, get a S-IPS, you'll love it.

Good Luck!!
