Best 2.1 Speakers?

Out of production, but I HIGHLY recommend trying to find a set of Altec ACS-48 Powercubes. Mine are 3 years old, but IMO they still sound better than any other 2.1 speaker set on the market for under $100, including newer Altecs. Do a google search, you'll find plenty of praise for them. Found this comparison against the 2100's after searching a bit:

For ages I?ve been using the Altec Lansing ACS 48s (now out of production) as the bar to measure 2.1 computer speaker sets. The 2100s won?t replace the ACS-48s as the speakers to beat but will be one I?ll definitely use as a reference in future reviews.

klipsch. Haven't listened to any 2.1 monsoon system though.

(I have monsoon's mh505s -- great speakers...especially for the cost. sounds cleaner than the z560s I used to have. )

I like my Boston Acoustics BA790 set. Got them for $99 a few years ago but that was at MSRP and I'm sure you can find cheaper now.
Especially good if you have S/PDIF output because they come with a coaxial input, coaxial cable and coax-standard stereo adapter that I use to connect to my Audigy.

The ACS48 system was pretty good. The bass was definitely slamming on that. BUT, not quite as refined as the bass on the Microworks 😉 You should be able to find the Microworks 2.1 system on ebay for less than 100. These once retailed for over 300 dollars, and for a reason--they rawk!

Dude for the price i would go with Logitech Z-640 speakers. I have this speaker set and it kicks butt for the price. No its not a 2:1 set but why not get a 5:1 set when its only about 70.00. They sell it at buy.com.

Sound quality reasons would be my guess.

While I realize that money is probably an issue hear, low-quality speakers are really a drag, so I would invest in something really good (i.e. Klipsch)

And no, I do not work for them, I just love their speakers. (Me and my bro each have 4.1's....after i ditched my z560's)

yeah take the monsoon, u won regret, it will smoke the other speakers. Since monsoon uses flat pannel tech, there are virtually no audio distortion. When i play orchestral music on my MH 505, all the instrument sounds sharp and clear even to the most minute instrument.

bump...and which pair out of these?

JBL Creature
Monsoon Planar Media 9 Flat Panel
Altec Lansing 251
JBL Sonnets
Monsoon MH-502
Logitech Z-640
TDK 60W or 80W

logitech? you're looking for a 2.1 system right?

Monsoon Planar Media 9 Flat Panel and MH-502 are both great. They're relatively equal, but the media 9 flat panel, IMO, nudges out the mh-502 by just a bit.

Avoid all Logitech speakers except their flagship models, the Z560 and Z680. The rest are all based on the same driver and sub technology, and compare poorly to other similar systems.
