Best 19in CRT

Anubis

No Lifer
god dammit, seems my 2 year old 19in KDS XFlat 19in is starting to go on the Fritz, random wobbly lines flickering through it, just started today. 🙁 its been running 1600x1200 @ 75Hz for 2 years and been just fine.
I reinstalled new vid drivers and checked the connection on it, helped a little but not much still dooin it so i dont think its the card or interference

so anyway which is better the
ViewSonic P95F+B 19" PerfectFlat CRT
or the
NEC/MITSUBISHI FE991SB-BK 19" SuperBright Diamondtron CRT

i woudl REALLY like to grab This 22in NEC - dell has them for 550$ free shipping but i dont know i i can swing that

Personal opinion without looking at either monitor's specs: Viewsonic

Why? Because I've had a Viewsonic PT775 for 7.5 years now and it has never showed any signs of getting old. The geometry is great, never needed any changes. It still turns on just as quick as the day I bought it. And the best part, it runs @ 1600x1200 75Hz!

I love Viewsonic. I just wish they kicked as much a$$ in the high-end LCD market. 🙁

And you get the strangely comforting Viewsonic birds logo to watch over your every keystroke.

im not buying a LCD if i was gonna spend that kind of money i woudl have allready purchased a 22in CRT

however i guess i could run 1 LCD and 1 CRT and just use the CRT for photo work

the cheapest LCD that does 1600x1200 native is the Dell 2001fp correct?

My brother was using a 17 inch Apple Studio CRT Display. Its going bad. We had it for quite a while. It keeps crackling and making all kinds of popping sounds. So he stole my G4's 21'' Sony Trinitron CRT monitor, and I am stuck with a cheapy 15'' monitor. 🙁

I like Mitsubishi. Beautiful picture. The Apple Studio Display CRT monitor is built by Mitsubishi, and the picture is awesome. I've also seen some Mitsubishi monitors at my local best buy, and they are beautiful monitors.

Why do you need a CRT for photo work?
How is a 24bit DVI monitor with a lossless/noiseless connection not good enough for photo work?

The reason why most people choose a CRT monitor for photo work is because when it comes to color matching, the CRT is better than an LCD.

That is if you dont mind the heat, power consumption, sheer weight, and limited desk space. Dont get me wrong I have a 19 in CRT NEC, but the new 12 ms LCD's intrigue me and prices are falling on them everyday! 🙂

Also anubis the sharpness on a crt cannot be matched because of the pixel pitch. It is fixed on an LCD 🙂

i run dual 19in CRTs currently, desk space isn not an issue to me i have abig desk, neither ie heat or weight

and yes CRTs do a MUCH better job of color matching, & i can run them at many many different resolutions

a 22in CRT can run 2048x1536 @ 85 Hz as a max res
can do 1600x1200 @ 105Hz
or better yet
1920x1440 @ 92Hz

Alright, I can understand that it is easier to match color on a CRT, but there are hundreds of programs out there that can be used to finely-calibrate monitor displays.

Anyways, I just moved from my trusty-ol' 17" CRT to a 20" Widescreen LCD.
I was waiting for LCDs to really bring themselves up to the same level as CRTs, and I think they have accomplished that.
So yea, I might be a bit bias towards LCDs now. 🙂

Are you arguing for or against LCDs?
Please explain pixel pitch.

They are almost there just lack blacks and sharpness compared to CRT's. With the backlights I dont think lcd will ever match crt's blacks and true blacks give you the best contrast therefore seeing more depth in what you see 🙂

correct
you can get LCDs that render good black but they cost a ton, and CRTs still have a better contrash ratio

I am not arguing for anything lol. The size of a pixel is a "fixed" size on an LCD where as pixels on a CRT can be manipulated by adjusting resolution size. The LCD adjusts the picture with complicated algorithyms to fit your screen when not used at its native resolution. LCDS are by far best at their NATIVE RES's. On a CRT the size of the pixel actually changes as you adjust resolution. Thats why CRT's achieve a much CRISPER SHARPER image and if you have owned both you should readily see these differences.

The only reason I want an LCD is because they look nice. The older Apple Studio Display's, the older LCD ones, would look nice with my G4, because the look will match.

hehe the monitor seems to be getting worse by the min this is funny, and it honestly started like 20 min before i posted this
i switched teh ports these are running off on my graphics card to see if it was the CRT-DVI adapter that was the issue, but that didnt change anything

happens at all resolutions and refresh rates. sigh 🙁

Ok, I just did not understand the difference in pixel sizes. I figured that the grid of pixels that the CRT's electron gun lit up were physical, so as to imply a fixed size as well. I still don't fully understand.

Cheer up Anubis. 🙂

My brother started experiencing problems with his Apple monitor today too. The crackling and it looks like his monitor degauses 3 times in a row, and then, it wont stop. I am going to have to get it repaired for him. And he stole my 21'' monitor!!
