I don't know what LCDs you have been looking at, but as an owner of an NEC MultiSync FE950+ immediately before purchasing a ViewSonic VP201b this past May I can say there is simply no comparison. I was quite pleased with my CRT up until I took delivery of my LCD, and my plan was to use both in a dual monitor set up, one for games/movies the other for multi-tasking/chat/admin. But once I got the LCD side by side with the CRT I could not believe how blurry and dark the CRT looked, the CRT with which I had been perfectly happy. After days of trying to adjust the CRT it now sits turned off, I just can't even stand to look at it the LCD picture is so much better. I play a lot of games, and playing my favorites on the LCD was almost like getting to play them for the first time again. The colors in Far Cry blew my away, the weapon and environment details in UT2004 were amazing, games/maps I had seen dozens of times before were surprising me with things I never noticed before. Maybe you should check out some LCDs different from the ones you have already seen?

This is actually a good thread I'm looking for something as well. I'm all into buying the 2005fpw but as others have mentioned the non 4:3 ratio is the only thing in the way right now. Personally, I'm just looking for something that has a higher end resolution than my 17" Acer 1715b (which is a great lcd btw). There's no way I'm going back to CRTs and 19" lcds are worthless as well because the extra increase in size really isn't what I'm after. I'd think about a 2001fp but I personally think that's too outdated of technology and I've heard horrendous reviews when gaming on the top resolutions with it so I'm steering clear of that one. If only Dell thought of the gamers when they designed that 2005fpw, shame on them...

Maybe I will when I get some more money saved up to spend :)

I haven't really been looking at computer displays since I started getting into HT and bought my projector.

The LCDs I've seen just haven't looked right... it's not even clairity or ghosting or anything... it's that my eyes hurt after looking at them for more than a minute. I guess I'm a freak :p
It's almost the same sensation I get from looking at a CRT on 60hz. Can't explain it, so I'm not going to try. I'll definately check out a variety of options once this NEC dies.

No need to explain. All that matters is how it looks to you and your eyes, all the reviews and specs can go out the window. And yeah, these things are expensive. If I hadn't come into a bit o' money out of sheer luck there is no way I would have spent $700+ on a monitor, even the 19" little brother VP191b runs $500. But now having done so I am glad I did, as I feel that I am actually getting my money's worth despite the high price.

Get a Dell 1905FP or 2001FP and be a happy camper. Read the reviews on Anandtech if you want to become a Dell LCD fanboy like me. Make sure you wait for a nice discount/coupon, though. Check Techbargains. The 1905FP should cost $350 or less before shipping/tax. The 2001FP should cost $450 or less before shipping/tax. Good luck and damnit, I wish I had $1000 for a monitor...

On the topic of 19" lcds....I'm considering the Dell 1905FP or the HYUNDAI L90D+. I play mostly games but do you my comp for school work. I realize the Dell probably has better overall quality but the L90D seems more geared for gaming? Suggestions?
