Best 19" monitor for text for <= $600?

I've read several very informative threads here and other places, but I'm still having problems deciding. Video card also seems to be important, but I have Matrox G400, which should be enough. I'm specifically and above all interested in superior text image and accurate 2D geometry, so I'd appreciate any input from programmers, web developers, or other professionals working primarily with text for the whole day. So far people seem to agree on Sony being "da best", but I was watching E400 at Compusa, and those infamous two horizontal lines seem to be very noticable and annoying(what do current users think?). Currently I'm choosing among these, in order of preference:

1. NEC Multisync FP950 Flat 19" 25MM (but the 2 @#$%^& lines!)
2. Hitachi CM772 Ergoflat 19"/18.0V .22mm 1600x1280 85HZ (any better ShadowMask models?)
3. Sony CPD-G400 19"/18V .25mm FD Trinitron
4. Samsung Syncmaster 900NF 19"/18V .25mm Natural Flat

I currently have Hitachi Superscan 752, and I'm pleased with it. Colors might have been more vivid, and tube flat, of course, but overall ok.

Also, if anybody could suggest a good monitor shop within Greater LA area?

TIA

I'd suggest the SONY CPD-G400. Excellent color, sharp text, and oh so bright. Yes, it does have the 2 stabilizer wires running across the screen but you're only going to notice them on a light backround and normally only if you're looking for them. Honestly, they don't bother me a bit.

You may want to look into the Samsung Syncmaster Dynaflat 19" monitor, I got one about a week ago, they are a very nice monitor, and they have a .20 pitch 1600x1200 res, price was around $400. If that one doesn't satisfy you, there is also the Samsung Natural Flat, which is even better

You nay wanna take a look at LG Electronics FLATRON technology. They claim it is flat in both the inside and outside while FD trinitrons and Mitsubishi Diamodtron are flat on the outside only. They also claim that they do not have the two lines you seem to hate. I haven't seen reviews on these monitors yet but they just started to fully market their products here on the US.

Uh... no, actually both FD Trinitron and Diamondtron NF are flat inside to outside. While the Flatron is a good tech, they lack 19" models and is a bitch to find in the US.

LXi:

Actually, according to Mitsubishi, the Diamondtron NF screen is curved on the inside, and then flat on the other two layers. Take a look at the diagram in this pdf

Well it points out that the conventional flat(which I assume would be FD Trinitron since its the Diamondtron NF's rival) also has one of the three layers curved. So after all I was wrong about being flat inside to outside.

No, all flat screen technologies have some sort of curve - whether it be the innermost layer or the optical layer.

Yeah, if you truly want a flat screen I think we are talking LCD's ;)

Anyway, my favorites are the KDS AV195TF and the Samsung 900NF.

My Samsung 900NF is on the way. I got Mitsubishi BNC connectors with the monitor also. Amazon takes forever to ship items. :(

What's the difference between CM771 and the CM772? Just a newer model? Any technical differences? Anyway, I have two of them, and love them to death. Of course, the second one is not being used right now... waiting for the G800 so I can run a dual display... but yeah, can't go wrong with the Hitachi. I was looking at the Samsung and Hitachi, and chose to go with the Hitachi instead. No complaints here...

dcdomain:

The difference between 771 and 772 is in the specs, the 771 can do a maximum 1600x1200@75Hz, the 772 can do the same res at 85Hz, the video bandwidth is also different, 771 has 203MHz, the 772 has 230MHz. Other than those, there are no difference.

Samsung SM 900IFT would be my choice, i'm in front of this computer ALOT doing work & my eyes love this monitor. Would recommend it to anyone & have, but your best bet would be to see any monitor your interested in before you lay down $600, personal preferences vary.
