Best 19" monitor for gaming

I don't care about CRT or LCD, I just want the best monitor for gaming. I have a p4 2.8 with 1 GB Rambus pc1066 and a radeon 9700pro and want to take advantage of it. I don't want to spend more than $1000 and would like to keep it a lot less than that. Last I checked everyone was suggesting the Samsung 900NF. Is that still the top dog or is there something else. Thanks.

Also, I can't find refresh rates. Everyone says to find something less than 20ms but the only monitors that list them are LCDs. Am I missing something?

You dont want to speend more than $1k? HEck, you good get a good 17-19" LCD screen for that price...........dell has budget 18inch LCD going for under $650 shipped free........seems to be decent 25ms, 350:1 ratio, etc........gigabuys.com <<<

The 20ms is the pixel response time which as you noticed only applies to LCDs. For CRTs look for one that can do at least 85Hz refresh rate at the resolution you plan on running it at. Do a search for 19 and you'll come up with a bunch of threads on this topic.

I dunno how much 2D work you do, but the 900NF has mediocre text quality (aperture grill).

Best bang for the buck for gaming are simple shadow mask CRTs. They also generally have the best 2D text quality too for CRTs.

My Samsung 172T LCD has a <25 ms response time and it's pretty good for gaming, but I'm not a hardcore gamer. More importantly though the text quality is unrivaled of course, esp. with DVI, but also with VGA.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend a "budget" LCD. I went with the Samsung 172T because at least for the budget LCDs I saw, the image quality was mediocre at best.
