Samsung 900NF. Considering both are flatscreens, chances are the slight geometry problems will occur on both.

I looked at all three of these moniters next too each other: G400, 900NF, and Viewsonic PF790, the 790 looked the clearest and sharpest, so i bought it, that was last night, hooked it up this morning, beautiful, by the way my last moniter was the 900NF and i sold it to get this one, just my input, no one ever considers the viewsonics on this forum why???

Just my 2 cents...

Because compared to Sony, Viewsonic is a level down...
Samsung is a better brand too...

900NF is comparable to the Sony G400, not the E400.

So of those two, the Samsung is the one to get.
(I own one. I like it very much)

I had a Viewsonic........just not in the same league IMHO.......in every aspect, refresh rates, crispness, clearness........and I look at these things everyday doing CAD! I haven't had the Samsung until just very recently but so far it seems very comparabale to the Sony I had at my old job!

Well, BChico, I can relate to you.
When I saw E400 and PF790 at Compusa, the 790 was sharper and brighter.
But no 900NF was there.

900nf totally beats out the e400, but the g400 is a closer competitor to the 900nf. I would still get the 900nf anyways.

The 900NF over a Sony? Never.

It's not even the best DiamondTron monitor ... ;)

Also, the spec should read 0.25-0.27 for the "stripe pitch" on the Samsung. It's the same for all DiamondTron CRTs.

You can get the E400 for $409US from Staples ...

Viewsonic is by no means a level lower than Sony or Samsung. Viewsonic, Sony, and Samsung are all top notch quality. I will even go as far to say that you are less likely to have geometry problems with a Viewsonic than you would the other two. All viewsonic monitors are rock solid reliable (until ups gets a hold of them...).

I work at a local CompUSA and look at these things all day long. I wouldn't be caught dead with that Samsung. The one we sell is only a shadow mask monitor. Not a true trinitron. It is the 955.Maybe they are slightly different? I don't know, but I do know it looks like ass. My E400 is an awesome monitor that beats the Sams for color and clarity any day. I bought 2 of them, neither has any perceivable distrotion, either. If I remember correctly, the Samsung monitor and Mitsubish tubes anyway. I had a Mitsubishi 900u and the color was definitely inferior to my Sony. The PF790 looked great, good colors and all, but the Sony had great color and clarity.

To me, who sells them all the time, I think the sony is a better buy. It is more expensive where I work, but maybe not in your area? The best thing to do is go and look for yourself. Many may diagree with me, many will agree, I think that it is different for everyone.

Best 19" monitor? Definetely, both hands down Sony GDM-F400. Look at that monitor once and you'll understand.

E36M3: The Samsung 955DF is their 'budget' 19", the 900NF is higher end.

I've never seen a Sony E400 in action, so I can't compare. But I do know that the 900NF has a spec sheet more akin to the G400, so my first guess would be that the 900NF is better than the E400. I prefer the Sony G400 to the Samsung 900NF (though there is quite a price gap), but I don't know how the E400 factors in.

Of course, you could just ditch all these weeny monitors and get a real monitor, the Sony F series is unbeatable ;)

Seriously though, for less than $700CAD you probably want the Samsun 900NF. Especially if it's cheaper than the E400, the 900NF is a good monitor in my opinion. I'm not the best judge of monitor quality, but with the number of happy users in here you're probably good to go.

This is like beating a dead horse but the bottom line is no monitors are created equal. You may get unlucky and get a sub-par Sony G400 so it's really the luck of the draw. From a price/performance standpoint, nothing beats the Samsung 900NF and that is true! :)
