Best 19" LCD Display with 16ms?

I need an LCD for gaming because I'm tired of looking to the left and torquing my kneck the way my setup is. If i was to face forward I would only have enough space for an LCD. Right now prices don't mean much to me. I just want to see what's out there. You guys probably know more than I do.

Thx

Hitachi CML174SXW 17" LCD Thats what im using, great monitor. 16ms so no blurring, nice colours, everything anyone looking for an LCD needs. Had it about a month now and will never go back to CRT. Do a search in the forums for it there has been A LOT of threads on it. I wouldn't wait on a 19" 16ms LCD, you will be waiting till around the end of the year, and even then it will cost over $900 easy i'd say. 17" is plenty big enough, remember a 17" LCD has the same viewable area of a 19" CRT.

Yea, it's nice but I run my 19" crt at 1600*1200 I'd miss all that desktop area if I had to go down to 1280! 🙁 So I have to wait for the 19" 16ms LCDs!

Hitachi CML174
NEC LCD1760NX
Planar PX171M
BenQ FP767

I think there are others, but I can't think of 'em. They all use the same panel, so the visual quality should be similar with each. Just a couple warnings, though. NEC hasn't officially released the response time for the 1760NX, but its generally accepted that its the same 16ms panel that the other manufacturers use. Also, the BenQ doesn't have DVI input, only analogue D-sub.

19" panels still use 1280x1024 native resolution. You would wither have to get a larger panel (eg. 21") for 1600x1200 native resolution. Then you'd have to wait for 16ms 21" panels.

Also there are high density, high res 19" panels with very fine dot pitch that offer 1600x1200 native resolution, I've only seen them from Silicon Graphics and Eizo. Those will cost you an arm and a leg, plus they dont have the 16ms response time you're looking for.

and yes it is the 18" panels that offer the same viewable area of a 19" CRT... not the 17" panel.... unless you are talking about a really pathetic 19" CRT. 😛

Whenever someone claims 17" lcds have as much viewable as a 19" crt, I ask them WHICH 19" CRTs have only 17" viewable and they mysteriously stop responding 🙂

well dont know exactly what you are looking for but here's the one i bought http://www.necmitsubishi.com/products/home/ProductDetail.cfm?product_id=156&division=NEC its a bit pricey but it kicks major butt. i'm very happy with the gaming performance on it. only drawback it has is max resolution, which seems to be related to the vid card. i run a ATI 9700 Pro, and in order to get it pass 1280x1024 i have to put it on high quality, for some reason that unlocks the higehr rez settings up to 1600x1200. if you go to balanced or performance, max rezz you get is 1280 x 1024. but its cool since i got the system to run everything at max quality anyways 🙂

the best thing about LCD vs regular for me is that its sooooooooooooo much easier on the eyes. man, if i knew this i would have changed to LCD long ago. no more eyestrain, its really a beutiful thing.

BTW, please do ignore that price listed there, i bought mine at the Pomona Computer show http://www.lacomputerfair.com/CFPages/schedule.html for $719 + tax. i'm sure they will have more, and they will come down in price if they havent already.

Ok, I went to that link and it listed the max/native rez setting at 1280 x 1024. It was also my understanding you can't get higher then the native rez on a LCD. How would you run a 1280 x 1024 LCD monitor at 1600 x 1200? Can this be done?

as i stated above, it can be done, as to the how, i have no idea because i am not familiar with how monitors work. but this is how it works on my comp:

1. go to advanced display settings, direct 3d
2. turn off custom config.
3. slide all way to where it says "Quality->" at this moment you will see the remaining 2 resolution modes which were previously greyed out, become dark fonts and selectable.
4. apply, ok, reboot
5. go back to basic settings this time and you will be able to select up to 1600 x 1200, select desired rezz and you're done.

the higher rez modes work ONLY on the high quality setings and one notch below it, and for some reason are NOT available when using custom setings.

again, i do not know why or how that works, but it does and thats precisely what it does.
