Best 17inch LCD?

With the hot deal at Dell Home going on right now, I'm seriously contemplating a 17inch LCD monitor.

I'm looking at the Dell UltraSharp 1702FP and the SONY DELUXEPRO SDM-X72/B.

Anyone have any opinions on either of these? Or anyone know of a better 17inch model?

Clear text is a must (as clear as possible on an LCD)
 
Well, I don't know too much about LCDs, but if you have the desk space, I would highly recommend that for about the same price, you pick up 2 19" Trinitrons. You'll get excelent picture quality and have a much larger desktop.
 
I say go for the LCD.


I'm not sure which one though, so someone else must reccommend. I hear that planar is good.
 
Don't get the Sony... it has worse response times than the models before that... it does add a wider viewing angle and a better contrast ratio along with DVI... but i don't think it would do too well with games... well you don't seem to concerned about that.

I got this two weeks ago... 17-inches of widescreen goodness... and a response time of 22ms... too bad it looked like a 15 incher... 😕 heh... off i went to return it... my wallet was pretty happy too. 😀 I'd get one of those Samsungs... everyone here seems to recommend them... 🙂... not sure which one but I'm sure someone here is more knowledgeable about Samsungs than I am.
 
Wow, you got one of the new Sony widescreen LCDs and didn't like it? Yeah it's pricey but the specs are amazing. If they had that model at Dell, I'd seriously consider it.

I was debating which 17" LCD to get from Dell today, but then I sucked it up and went for the 1900FP. 😀 19" of LCD goodness coming my way!
Better make up your mind tonight. 😉

Yeah the specs are nice... but seriously... when you sit down in front of it... it looks like it's a damn 15 incher... 🙁 ...wish they made at least an 18-inch widescreen or something.
