While the I9300 is hard to beat on P/P is has a major shortcoming. No NumPad.

For a more robust solution consider the HP dv8000z, it has 2 HDD's. Currently only available with a Turion64. The Core Duo version should drop in a few weeks. For a review head on over to TomsHardware.

Also..the 9300 is no longer available on the Dell site..I happen to have one and love it. You might be able to pick one up in the Dell outlet store.

I was able to get my 9300 for $600 on there outlet :), I would not shy away from the outlet.

Also the 400 fsb processors can be modded to 533 fsb, DDR2 is cheap etc.

Lastly I think the 9300 has the best graphics available still, some sort of mobile geforce 7800

I have an XPS M170. Awesome laptop I must say although they are pricey. I see alot of people mod their 9300 into pretty much an XPS2 so yea, I'd go for that too if I did not have the M170. In addition, if you are interested in Core Duo, you could check out the Dell i9400.
