Best 17" LCD for gaming?

LCD users, I would like to hear your opinions about which 17" lcd is best for gaming?

(and I know that right now crts are still better at this area, so don't give me the "if you wanna play hl2/doom3 stick with the crt " )

I was thinking about getting the Samsung 710T, any other suggestions ?

ViewSonic VP171B-2 17" LCD w/ 8ms and DVI would be the best 17inch available. (330 at newegg). However, the current trend for lcds is the Hyundai 19inch 8ms dvi at newegg for 380

Hmm,

ok what I need is basically this :

Response Time <=12ms (for gaming that's important)
Price <350$
Size= 17" only
Dvi Support.

i got a samsung SyncMaster712n with 8ms response time for 250 after rebate from frys electronics

if you can find a 20ms hydis panel, it is the best for gaming. Their average response time is less than or equal to 20ms. But those 12, 16ms version is the peak (fastest) response time, not average. If you want more detail, you can do a research on those hydis panel in tomshardware.com

I own a 710t and I love it. dvi and 12ms. response time. you may want to wait for samsung/benq to release faster panels, though (6ms., 5ms., and even 4ms.).

the 712n has a 12ms. response time, but lacks DVI and pivot.

from the same site you mentioned (The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful: 17" LCDs Reviewed):

Tom's Hardware awarded 710t for multimedia capabilities.

Take a look on Newegg for some monitors utilizing 8ms. panels:

Either the BenQ FP71G+ or the ViewSonic VP171B-2. I recommend the BenQ because it did very well on the response time tests on Tom's Hardware. The BenQ is also $75 cheaper than the VP171B-2 after mail-in rebate for $20. Both are under your price point of $350.

The HyDis is also a true 24-bit panel, if that is worth anything. I an happy with mine, but there are issues you should know:

VERY limited viewing angle - you have to sit just right for optimal brightness/color.
Factory set contract/brightness is really bad.
There is still very noticable blurring outside of gaming.

I have a SyncMaster 710T and no ghosting in any game so far 12ms
and it flat out rocks.

Can't tell you about the 710T, but judging by Samsung's claimed 12ms response time, .0264mm dot pitch, and DVI support it sounds like a winner. Those are the basic specs of my Samsung 172X, a great 17" LCD I bought to replace my 172T, which was a little slow for gaming (25ms).

BTW, neither of my Samsung's has a single dead or stuck pixel, so you are probably going to be fine as far as the panel goes. Good luck.

do they just not make 710T's anymore? all i can find are 710N's
