Best 17" LCD: 173P, 172X or 710T?

I'm thinking it's about time to change from a bulky CRT to a sleek LCD. However, I'm wondering which one is the best to get in the 17" category. From what I see, the 173P is more expensive but not immensely so. Though, I'm wondering if the extra money put out is actually well spent. Does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations?

By the way, I'd like to switch to an LCD monitor simply because of space (not weight). Although I keep on reading mixed opinions regarding the quality of LCDs compared to CRTs and the whole "dead pixel" issue which seems to rampant amongst most LCD monitors.

The purpose of this change is to spruce things up, aesthetically and to use it strictly for gaming and movies (very little content creation). The question arises, however, will the colors be as crisp and vivid and devoid of ghosting (as it is on CRTs) with either the 172X, 710T or the 173P?

As an added note, I must mention that my current 17" inch Samsung 753DF CRT changes tints ever so often from the regular "white" into a yellowish eye-destroying color. It looks as if a yellow color filter was placed on my monitor. Forgive me, for I am no tech junkie so I have no idea what the reason is (everything is plugged in perfectly and power supply wattage is 470) so I'm stumped and my warranty has expired long ago.

So, for pure quality, is an LCD worth the extra money? Or does simple performance (seemingly) and sexy sleekness win with the LCD over the heavy and bulky nature of a powerful CRT? And which of three I mentioned (I'm looking in the 17") is best - better yet what's the best 17" LCD monitor out there that doesn't carry an exorbitant price tag (below a $1000).

Thanks, in advance.

I can only go from my own experience which tells me that for price and performance, CRT's still rule for 17 and even maybe 19 inches and smaller. They aren't too powerhungry or huge as the big CRTs are. I think for half the price of an average LCD, you can get a picture that is crisper, brighter, and more color-rich. The thing I notice is that you have to spend a lot more money on LCD to get the same quality. But that is changing rapidly. The 20 inch LCD desktop monitors and the laptop displays are just amazing. And LCD TV's just kick DLP and will be more durable than plasma.

IR your title.

I have both a 173p and a 710T. The 173p totally dominates. The only place where the 710T wins is in counter-strike because, for some reason, ghosting is extremely apparent on the 173p in that game.

Overall, I'd recommend the 173p. Both are great though and I'm glad I use these over CRTs. You WILL get used to the ghosting, trust me, and it's pretty marginal to begin with.

I also have the 173P, and it its fantastic. Picture quality is great and the viewing angle is amazing. I haven't really noticed any ghosting, then again it never bothered me. The design of the display is also has the sleekest looking I've seen.

Go for the 173P, you won't be dissapointed.

Edit: Btw, I'm also using it with an analog connection and it looks great. Can't wait to get my new video card and go digital.

Will the quality dramatically increase with digital connection? Also, is ghosting very dramatic on the 17" monitors because I just tried a 19" with Doom 3 and Far Cry and they were nearly unplayable; however, at their native resolutions(1280X1024 instead of 1024 x 768, which was previous the resolution in-game), the text was far more crisp and blurriness was done away with but the ghosting still remained.
