I'm planning to buy a flat 17" CRT monitor.
Any suggestion on what is the best monitor and why? And maybe the price if possible.

Samsung 700NF ~$200 shipped.
Sony G220R ~$280 shipped.
I like trinitron monitors.

I used to have a trinitron monitor but those 2 little wires running across the screen eventually drove me crazy and I had to get rid of it.

Envision has a 19" flat-screen CRT (EN-980e) for ~$200. I think they sell it at Staples and CompUsa so you may want to check out that model as well.

I received my 17" NEC FE791SB on Tuesday and it looked absolutely amazing. For about and hour. Once it heated up, the monitor's image became distorted and the only clarity left was in the corners. The center was just a blur. NEC's sending me a new one. I'm not sure if I want a new one though. What's to keep it from happening again?

FExxx, the E stands for value model, don't expect you'll get a perfect mon.
I'd only consider FPxxx, doesn't cost much more.
