How big is the room?

You sure you want 12" vs. 10"?

Some of the better ~$400 options are 10" subs.

Sorry for the lag...... was listening to some old Spike Jones music :)
For an Entertainment Center/Livingroom setup. if it can be 10" and superior then fine.

Thanks Buill Cobsy. (throws you puddin' in a pack)

EDIT: Room is 18' x 10'

Are you replacing a sub that's not cutting it now?

I have no Sub in the living room at the moment. Took the 8" Polk and put it where I'm sitting now! (computer room/listening to the Star Wars soundtrack)

I have Polk Rti 12's for fronts & Polk FXi3's as surrounds in the living room.

I can do this setup no problem. I'd like New from a reputable store= Easy return.

I mean DIY as in a kit sub or something. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=155

So you want to buy it from a B&M store, or would an online retailer work for you too?

I kno w the SAZ-1500D's sell for $550cad a piece, so you *might* be able to get a pair for $900usd and strap them together for over 3kw @ 2ohms. If you can't handle that kinda power don't worry and just get a single one ;)

Otherwise look at the usual Audison, Zapco, heck you might even be able to get a Helix or Brax at that price point.
