I have a comp ( Northwood 2.4ghz, 1GB RDRAM) with an ati all in wonder 9600 video card, I'm looking for $100 AGP video card that will help the comp run newer games better? Any suggestions, are the radeon X1600 256mb PRO or Geforce 6600 256mb good and which is better between the two ?

Hmm I can get the 6600 on newegg for 90 shipped, the x1600pro would cost me about 115 shipped. Is the price increase warranted from a 6600 to a X1600 pro ?

Yes, it's worth the price increase.

I would get the x800gto for $25 more over the x1600pro, that would be much more worth the cash over the 6600. The x800gto performs close to a 6800gt, go for that. And LW07 you need to update you sig a $370 x1900xt is no longer a hot deal around here........

Yeah, I agree. If you can afford $25 more for a X800GTO, get it.

same performance as 6600GT , a little better due to its 256-bit Memory Interface .

Peace & ciao !!!

Actually a 6600gt is clocked at 500mhz, and unless you OC the 6800xt to 500mhz it will be slower than a 6600gt. And really, a 6600gt should cost no more than $100 these days. I sold my 9800p for $90 like a year ago, and the 6600gt is only slightly faster. I'd go for the x800gto, because most will OC to 500+ mhz, and some can unlock to 16 pipes. An OC'd and unlocked gto is the same as a x800xt, which will blow away any other agp card in that price range.

I thought it was only PCI-e ones that unlocked?

No, there are some AGP models that unlock to 16 pipes.

Just been playing COD2 on mine (unlocked) at superb framerates. :D

I had one for a few months and it never overclocked well. I believe they are already clocked quite high to begin with, and have little headroom.

I bought one of the X1600Pro AGP cards for $25 from NewEgg (combo deal with BenQ LCD) and its a pretty sweet card (at least for the price). For newer games, the X1600Pro works well. It will get beat by the 6600GT in older games.

Thanks for the code, but it only gave me $5 off. Isn't 15% of 119 something like 17 bucks?
