Best 10/100 Switch

I have a D-Link 5 port switch running a network segment in my home. It connects via uplink port to a SMC Barricade 4 port router. Currently it is down. This has been happenning off and on for a couple of months. I have been able to restore access by turning the unit off and leting it cool down an hour or so, then firing it back up. That doesn't seem to be working this time.

I had e-mailed D-Link tech support about the problem. (There support is absolutely horrible!) After about 2 weeks they sent me info on how to get an RMA. They offered no other solutions.

Anyway, the unit I have currently is one they sent me when I RMA'd my first unit. (it had a problem with it's cooling fan) I also have a dead Linksys 10BaseT hub. So now I am on a quest to find an inexpensive "RELIABLE" switch.

My experience with D-link and Linksys have left a bad taste in my mouth. Although my experience with SMC's 24hr tech support was very good.

Have any of you had experience with SMC switches?
What products should I look at?

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Is your D-link switch the DSS+5 (or something like that)? It doesn't have a fan, so I'm wondering if you have the same switch. I have the abovementioned switch and its been really reliable, no problems whatsoever.

If you want to change brands, SMC makes good switches but I heard they use the same OEM as D-Link in some of their products. Netgear is also another brand to consider, I think they are higher quality than most brands out there.

Yes it is the D-link DSS 5+.
The one I bought originally had a fan, but this one that the RMA dept sent me doesn't.

BTW- it took about 9 months before this one started malfuntioning.
