Nexus 5 and Sony Xperia Z1.

With considerations to the Xperia ZL and Note 3 and One Max[x?]

G2 wouldn't even be on my radar.

Since I hate to start new threads for just a semi-simple question;

I am actually doubting between this phone: the LG G2 or the HTC One.
Some background information, this will actually be my very first smartphone, so I have no real preconceived notions as it will all be new to me. I can get the LG G2, the HTC One or even the Galaxy S4 (and Mega) all for the same price with a contract (or the Note 2 or One Max for 50 dollars more).

Mostly I have been interested in battery life, somewhat the camera too and possibly being snappy enough to do some fast browsing (but I understand that's also a connectivity thing), music / sound would be the next point of interest.

well the G2 has the best camera of those phones, it also has a 3,000mAh battery so it lasts all day. it has the fastest CPU, and GPU of those phones too. LG also rewrote the ALSA audio stack to allow for 24bit/192Khz FLAC. So the G2 kinda hits all of your points.

Speaker quality is lacking, but with decent headphones its awesome.

Play with both phones and see which you like best. Design and feel in the hand is important, as is the software. The LG wins by virtue of it's all day battery, better hardware, and bigger screen imho, the HTC has better speakers, but how often do you actually use the speakers on a phone?

Also consider if you'll put a case around it or not, usually a protective case negates some of the design as it basically renders smooth or shiny, plastic or metal out of the equation especially if it's a monstrous Otterbox.

There are also many reviews out on the web comparing the two, you have to decide which features are most important and go from there.

Thanks to the both of you for weighing in. I have been doing some research and on paper it does seem that the LG G2 would be the smarter choice. Several months ago I was pretty much homing in on the HTC One as I really like the look of it, however it would drive me bonkers if I have to deal with a depleted battery all the time.
I will just have to check both models out again at a store and see what's what.
Thank you for the comments.

Got my 4th LG G2 today.
It is inside an OtterBox Defender case now.
I generally don't like big cases, but I think this phone calls for it.
Dropped my S3 hundreds of times and no trouble.

Maybe you could attach some sort of lanyard to your phone and then to your person. I've probably dropped my phone 3 times in the past 2 years, I try to be careful as they are rather expensive little items.

Good luck.

Droid Maxx, Moto X, or Nexus 5. No interest in something like a Note 3. First and foremost my phone actually needs to be a phone. Not a tablet. Texting and phone calls are the primary use. Apps and a quick google search are secondary and there's no place for a phablet in my lifestyle right now. That could change but not right now.

I am also in the market for a new phone (using my trusty and old HTC Incredible). My N7 makes up for the apps it can't run. But now I want a phone that can take good pictures and video. My first pick was the N5, but I'm a verxion sucker. Anyone know if this will work with them anytime soon?

SG4 is going to be my pick for price and quality. BF I can get it for $0.

What scares me most is that I've dropped my phone about 15 times on concrete and it has minimal marks and still works with a clean screen. Everyone is saying how fragile these newer phones are...

Go to 0:50 for One-handed usage. ^^ For making phone calls there is not much difference between the Note 3 and anything else since the dialers reside in bottom half. I've just learned about it and it's a cute hack.

To be sure, phablets aren't for everyone, I agree. It's bulkier and heavier for one, and no matter which way you cut it its ergonomics aren't the same as ≤5" screen phones.

Nexus 5. I love the speed of the G2 but it would be nice to have Kit Kat. Ultimately the G2 is better physically because of the better camera and larger battery but the Nexus will have better software support. Even so the G2 will have unofficial Kit Kat ROMs soon, but LG will probably push an update of their own at some point.

The Note 3 is just too big for my tastes but if you are willing to live with that then it is a great choice. The Galaxy S4 and HTC One are old phones at this point and will probably have replacements in the next few months so those shouldn't really be considered.
