Wtf? Stupid iTunes. I think it's the only program I have that will do this too. Fucking weird ass maximize window shit.
 
My girlfriend has an apple iwhatever laptop, and no matter what program you're using, when clicking the "maximize" button, the window doesn't actually fill the whole screen; you can always see some of the desktop on the edges. It drives me crazy.

Edit: I also use dropbox to share some music amongst my bandmates. They play the music in itunes directly from the shared folder and itunes loads it up with all the friggin coverart files. I hate that, too.

itunes runs great ... on macintosh.

its just like how ms office runs great ... on windows. it runs like total ass on macintosh.

Your problem is that you think the zoom button is a "maximize" button. It's not. You're expecting OS X to work like Windows. If it did, people wouldn't bother using OS X.

OS X and Windows have evolved independently of each other. They have many things in common, but their user bases have grown to like having things work a certain way. People who switch get annoyed because they think the way they're used to having things work is the right way.
