Besides getting new wiper blades is there anyway to stop them from skipping and making noise when in use?

My wiperblades are not even 6 months old yet when I use them in the rain the drivers side one jumps and skips and makes annoying noises.

Anything I can do besides buy a new one?

Not to get off topic, but what do you guys use for washer fluid? I have this bottle of bluish windex looking stuff from Wal Mart that leaves a residue when it dries, leaving grey lines along the left and right side of my windshield.

Could be that arm doesn't have enough tension...either the spring got weak or the arm got bent, who knows. Pull it away from the glass, if the driver side one feels weaker consider getting one from the junkyard (or new) or bend the arm to give it a little more tension.

Usually wipers that have gotten hard with age do that as you seem to recognize by pointing out they're not very old. Maybe a different brand with a softer rubber would do the trick...this assuming you bought cheap ones last time (I don't even bother with the cheap ones anymore just because of this). Or if it's dried somewhat sanding the edge lightly with sandpaper, SO's nail file, heck even the scrubber of the squeegy at the gas station, will get rid of the dried out layer and make it work better. How long goes back to rubber compound again.

Bosch microedge excel (I think that's the full name) are excellent blades. Virtually silent when in used. Much unlike the junky $5 blades that I've used in the past. They are pricey at $11 a blade but really...it's $6 well spent IMHO.

heh..

as others said, rainX.

the only time... wait, i never do use my wiper blades. when i wake up in the morning and have concensation all over the car, i pull the squeegee out of the trunk and wipe down. i dont even use those darn things.

It's called dirt. Really, its just the dirt your wipers just removed from other parts of the windshield.

What about when you have to wipe off all the bugs and bird poo from your windshield?

Dosent cleaning your windows mean you have to put on my Rain-X?

Prestone bug wash additive is good stuff; get it at walmart, and mix with some distilled water.
If it gets freezing where you are, try and get the rain-x winshield washer fluid, its either pink or green, or just add the rain-x additive to your current fluid.

A clean windshield is essential to its ability to be able to sheet off water, and to keep your blades from gunking up with dirt. I prefer to use Stoners invisible glass and a terry or microfiber cloth. A lot of people like the eagle 20/20 glass cleaner as well.

Generally, you will have to replace your blades twice a year, because in the summer, the sun dries out the rubber. Some blades are built better and last longer (silicone or teflon enhanced blades).

If you have a costco near you, I have found that there trico teflon blades work really well (althought they are $16 a pair). The Bosch blades are great as well. Just try not to get cheap blades with a plastic frame, and try no to get refills; the reason I say no refills is because eventually the springs will wear down, and so will the frame. When you buy whole blades and not refills, you ensure that you have fresh rubber and a new frame.

Rain-x will last as long as you don't use the wipers, and as long as your wiper fluid doesn't have isopropyl alcohol in it.

they have those now??? :Q i know rainx is marketing their brand of wiper fluid but it's expensive. i normally just buy the el cheapo blue-colored ones for $.99.

rainx has the wipes now too.

argh. i can't stand wiper noise...that just drives me nuts constantly hearing the repetitive sound on the road.
