Beryl Owns

Just got Beryl up and running on Ubuntu Edgy, and i must say I'm stunned. It looks amazing, and runs great even on my laptops integrated graphics. I heard talk of Compiz/Beryl before, but this is beyond my expectations. Just had to put that out there.

Actually did have Vista on my desktop for awhile and I really liked that too. I would still be using Vista now if it weren't for the fact that I'm at a university and they don't allow Vista on the network. Vista looks good and has some subtle animation, but beryl is a more robust set of UI tweaks. Vista has the Flip 3D which is cool, and the animated Aero interface looks great, but beryl has much more OSX like animations. Also beryl seems to run better on lower end hardware (I have it running on a 1.8ghz core solo 512 megs of ram and Intel GMA950 graphics). I have not loaded Vista onto that laptop, but it came marked as "Vista Capable" meaning its not up to MS's specs for Aero. I like Vista, its a good traditional setup, but beryl has a much greater "cool" factor.

roger. some of beryls stuff is nothing but pure eye candy, and can get annoying if you dont adjust the defaults. i find the most useful thing to be the "expose" feature. i have mine set up to grab every window from every desktop. very nice. its quite the conversation starter. my friend switched over to linux on his laptop, just because of the 3D cube. then his brother-in-law wanted it. slowly my friends are turning linux...
