looks like the 78 year old is not doing so good. is he too old to finish the race and serve until he almost 85?

Sen. Bernie Sanders, 78, was hospitalized in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted

Bernie dropping of his own volition would be a huge boost to Democrats. There is a huge portion of retarded adults that are Bernie or Bust that would sit out if Bernie loses the nomination. At least some of them would consider other candidates if Bernie just stops.

Warren stands to gain a lot if he drops out and there is no bad blood as to the why. Would harmlessly remove much potential friction in the primary.

He'res the rest of what was quoted.

"Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted," said Sanders’ senior adviser Jeff Weaver on Wednesday in a statement.
"Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits. He will be resting up over the next few days," Weaver said. "We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates."

Bernie had (past tense) chest discomfort which was remedied by stents and reported to be doing well.

As this is a commonplace procedure these days and many such as Cheney had more serious surgeries, medically this is a non-event once treated.

As an example of people functioning with heart conditions I'll use him as an example and provide a factual reference.

From "The Week" 3/26/2012

Former Vice President Dick Cheney underwent a heart transplant in Virginia on Saturday, and his doctors say he is "doing exceedingly well." Cheney, 71, has a long history of heart trouble — he had the first of his five heart attacks when he was just 37. In 2010, doctors implanted a battery-powered heart pump considered a "bridge to transplantation," and now that the transplant is complete, Cheney can rest easier..."

Obviously he did well enough to be VP.

If I had to guess at this point I think Warren is going to get the nomination, regardless, unless Yang or Pete can pull some magic out of their ass. Biden is too old and practically senile. Bernie is too old and is starting to sound like a broken record. I know Warren is old, too, but she doesn't look/act old.

Bernie will be 79 by the election and this will scare a lot of people away from him I suspect. If Warren is viewed as a viable alternative without fully compromising their values, people will jump to her.

Yeah I know stents breathe a lot of new life into people, but I don't think Bernie is really killing it in the polls anymore and this news alone is going to drag that down even more. Give him a cabinet position. His seat should be safe D. If Warren doesn't get the nom I'd like to see her as AG but her seat is a little more risky. It shouldn't be, but as we saw with Brown(?) we can't trust the Massholes not to fuck us.

From a medical science perspective, what is your basis for your statement? Bernie may choose to stop but there is no physical basis for him "being done" although one could argue that age is against him like many others.

I think Bernie should stay where he is now that others have come forward which are more similar to him than many others, but that's a political decision. If "Bernie is out" that's optional on his part. I think we need to keep the political aspects separate from the medical. Note my points constitute a DH6 and DH7 response.

Unless something unusual happens it's a race between Biden and Warren. Once the rest of the field drops out, even though there isn't a lot of support for some of them we'll have a better sense of what the odds look like.

My opinion isn't from a medical necessity. People concentrate on the health of a candidate. A 79 year old who suddenly has a heart issue like this will turn people off.

New polling shows Warren pulling ahead of Biden, and Bernie was already slipping before this news. Looks like UkraineGate served its purpose—GOP has successfully derailed the Dem front-runner (though many have argued he would have derailed himself anyway.)

Now let’s see if helping Warren get in front turns out to bite them in the ass.

I'm not a Bernie fan, but I wish him well. His current incapacitation is the-god-I-don't-believe-in's way of telling Bernie he's needed far more in the Senate than out on the campaign trail. Time to throw in the towel.

I don't think anyone here thinks this makes him incapable from a medical standpoint. From a purely political standpoint it will most likely hurt his poll numbers, because people for the most part are not rational when it comes to politics.

I want him to drop out for the reasons I mentioned above. Americans are looking for any excuse not to vote for Democrats and if Bernie loses again it will just add more fuel to the conspiracy theory that Democrats are screwing him.

Last one was 47. Currently? The stage is set too full of old folks, they wedge out the younguns through experience generally, so you end up with a pile of old folks.
Right, who wants people with political experience. I much prefer somebody like Trump who brings a fresh and novel approach just so long as it isn't Socialism from an old man shouting at clouds.

Probably the biggest problem in politics, as far as I can see, are voters.

The users are usually the biggest issue within any system that has users. I don't really want an inexperienced president, but I do understand that for some voters, relatability is important. Fine balance I think, Bernie was(is?) good at that.
