Sifitng through the comments, the best part is that some chick that "cheated" and snagged 30+ early has been called out and her name, address, phone, picture etc have all been posted all around.

The promo was HORRIBLY executed, but the idea was super cool.

A promotion sponsored by the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee County Parks System in which lawn ornaments bearing the likeness of mascot Bernie Brewer were placed in parks turned sour Tuesday morning when reports began to surface that collectors had snapped them up for apparent sale on eBay and other collector sites.

Soon after it became apparent some people were grabbing several of the gnomes for apparent resale, social media took over with Brewers fans posting critical and profane comments directed toward the would-be collectors.

The "Where's Bernie" promotion began Tuesday morning. More than 1,000 of the lawn ornaments were placed along Milwaukee's lakefront along Lincoln Memorial Drive from Veterans Park north to Lake Park.

Under the rules, fans were told to arrive at 7 a.m. and take one of the ornaments.

But in what Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes said were isolated cases, some people grabbed more than one.

One woman reported on her Twitter account that she had taken as many as three dozen, though that could not be confirmed. But the ornaments began appearing for sale on eBay, with one seller asking $122.50 for one ornament.

In one Twitter post directed at one of the apparent miscreants, someone wrote: "U R the lowest common denominator. 30+ Bernie statues??? Your greed disgusts me more than your profile picture."

Another wrote: "I lack respect for anyone that got a #WheresBernie lawn ornament before the 7a giveaway b/c you all cheated."

The promotion had been planned in advance of the team's Spring Madness sale, where tickets are sold at reduced prices.

In addition to the 1,000 or so at the lakefront, an additional 400 ornaments were placed in other parks in the five-county metropolitan Milwaukee area, as well as parks in Madison, Appleton, Green Bay and Kenosha.

The outstate ornaments included prizes; the ornaments at the lakefront did not have prizes.

Barnes said it was unfortunate that a few people didn't play by the rules and leave ornaments for fans who showed up at the parks.

"Overall, though, we were thrilled with the promotion," Barnes said. "I wish we could have gotten some of the gnomes in the hands of those who wanted them. At the end of the day, though, it went well."

Barnes said that, while some people were selling the ornaments at inflated prices, the team had them for sale in the Brewers retail store for $48.

The rules said fans were allowed one ornament per household.

Let us know if you have pictures of people who grabbed a bunch of the ornaments. You can post a comment on this post.

Whats funny/sad is all the parents that were out there with their kids early in the morning with flashlight in hand hoping to find one and have some fun doing it. Playing by the rules and waiting until 5am (which, is technically the time the parks open and if you are in the park before that you could/should be ticketed)

I thought of going with my kid, but then said screw it :)

Yeah, if I knew they sold them in the stores, I'd just buy it later, then hide it in the backyard and have the kids go looking for it with various clues, etc. Getting up me and the hypothetical kids at 4 or 6 AM to go look for a lawn gnome with other people who have also rolled out of bed is not worth $50 to me. Never mind the crazies who I would expect to get very agressive if there was a dispute. I'm really kind of suprised a fight didn't break out at some point.

The best part is those that bid on and won them on ebay already for $200+ failed to realize they are for sale at the Brewer Club House for $50.

BTW rockyct, speaking of buying from the source, I have 2 kid birthdays coming up....
