Now I dislike Panda Express as much as the next person, but seriously? If kids want to eat greasy pseudo-Chinese food and bring in revenue to your school, they should be free to do so.

I give them all a :beer: for being so gosh darned cute though.

I think it's cuz there is only space for one restaurant on lower sproul left (where the bearcade use to be ) so it is dumb that of all restaurants they are picking, they chose a restaurant that has the same exact food as one found in an adjacent food court on lower Sproul. Awhile ago, they were proposing In N Ou, and EVERYONE got excited for that, but for some reason, it fell through, and now they picked someplace sh!tty.

Hahaha, as a Berkeley grad that is friggin' hilarious. Just because it's a chain somehow it's evil relative to all the crappy Asian-ghetto restaurants on both north and south side. If Berkeley had good Chinese food, I might be able to see their argument. Sadly, Panda Express is probably as good as or better than most of the Chinese restaurants in Berkeley (possibly excepting Taiwan Restaurant on University which is surprisingly good). You'd think a super-Asian campus would be able to foster some better Chinese food.

What does the desire to install an asian fast food joint have to do with the free speech movement?

there are several ok asian restaurants that are better than Panda Express:

Southside:
Vietnam Village at the ghetto has pretty decent Chow Fun
Taiwan Restaurant as you mentioned above
Steve's Korean BBQ- OMG, their Kalbi is made up for in QUANTITY =D
Thai Basil- pretty good Thai Food

yeah, the rest pretty much suck. There is one place on the northside foodcourt that has pretty decent Beef Noodle Soup, and at the end, there is that one decent Korean Food restaurant.

and Joshya has AWESOME sushi by all standards.

unfortunately the scale is relative in the sense that all the above restaurants are 'ok' when compared to the stuff you get at SF/Oakland Chinatown or southern california.
