In the movie (2007) Beowulf sleeps with Grendel's mother when he goes to kill her, but in the original poem he beheads her when he fights her in her lair (in the movie Grendel is also the current king's son). Was this plot twist done intentionally in the movie to make it more dramatic or am I missing something?

:D

Sorry OP, but I wouldn't waste too much effort trying to figure out why they did what they did in the movie.

After reading that Wikipedia link, it seems that they changed it so that there was a more direct link between then and what happens later on.

Also, I thought the movie was panned pretty heavily, but I guess I was pretty far off on that. I could have sworn even the visual effects were criticized and made fun of, but again, doesn't seem to be the case. I guess I'm getting it confused with some other movie.

Welcome to Hollywood.

They seldom play it straight when "borrowing" from mythological or historical events, or literature. Sadly, many people get acquire their knowledge of these things from movies.

It was an interesting plot twist, I was just curious why they did it. I know they twist a lot of things for added effect, but this is severely skewed - as in, the entire movie changes because of it, not just some minor details. I liked the movie.

I hate twilight. Only good vampire movies IMO are Underworld series and a couple randoms are ok here and there (daybreakers wasn't bad, interview with the vampire is a good one).

such a great story, for it's age.

Problem with the movie was that Angelina Jolie was in it, and she demands sexing when present
