BeOS won't load

I downloaded BeOS PE just to try it out, but I can't seem to get it to load. I have tried both with the boot disk and from within windows.

When I use the floppy, it gets so far and then stops saying it can't find a bootable volume.

When lauching the loader from within 98 it brings up the BeOS screen but doesn't go any farther than that. The computer is just hung.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could try?

Yeah mine does the same thing. I am suspecting that it does not detect my Promis Ultra100 Controller card and thus it does not detect my IBM 30GB Deskstar.

Do you have some sort of similar config?

try making a boot disk. that might help. BeOS does seem to have some problems with some IDE controller cards too so Shanteli might be right.

Be does not have drivers for the newer promise cards, therefore they will not work. The only drivers currently in production by a third party are those for the highpoint ata-66 controller.

You know, I was kind of wondering about that. I have a setup that's very similar to Shanteli.

I've got a 30GB Deskstar on a KT7-RAID. I was thinking the RAID controller might be messing stuff up. I don't have a RAID array or anything, but I do keep the drive on the 1st RAID controller so that I can take advantage of ATA-100.

Come to think of it, when I was installing NT Server 4.0 on this thing, it couldn't find my HDD until I provided a disk w/ the drivers for the HPT 370 controller.

Oh well, I guess I could always move the HDD over onto primary master for a bit so I can at least try it out 😀.
