i got beos, and installed it on my home pc, just to have another OS, it seems to have some drivers built in, and other stuff not. It can access every other partition I have, and plays mp3's nativly. But how can i get it to play dvd's?
and what is it used for? is it more secure network wise? is it stabler? does it take better advantage of the processor? or is it a graphics work tool?
does it have Internet connection sharing built in?
will it run on a super low end system like linux can?
if you can tell me how i can get it to play dvd's, or any interesting use of it, I'd appreciate it..

DVD Player

Many things, mostly graphics though. It has much potential, unofortunately I think Be is dumping it in favor of working on their BeIA for internet appliances.

Stabler than Windows, I would say so, I have never ever ever seen it crash. While it is NOT based off of bsd, even though many people assume it is, it does have a unix style backend.

Unfortunately not (or that I'm aware of).

<< will it run on a super low end system like linux can? >>

Yes, on Pentium III 500Mhz with 128MB of RAM I have seen it boot in literaly 5 seconds. I have run it on lower end computers with no problems.

I've run it on a Pentium 166 with no problems, it seems much faster to me than say Win98 on a Pentium 166. It had 32 megs of ram and a pio mode 4 hard drive.

I think I may build a lower end box just for BeOS just to mess around with. As usual for non-microsoft OS's, I probably will not be able to do much with it, but hey at least I can say I tried ;)
