its been a while since i messed around with beos (which was really cool) but at that time it didn't do network install. all you do is install the program and it basically does the rest (no need to make a partition or anything). you do need to have a winxxxx os i think.

You don't have to have win anything to use Be. There's an unofficial Linux version out that lets you install to a linux partion and there's also instructions on how to make a bootable install cd from the linux version so you can install to it's own partition if you want (you can also do one of these installs from one of the installs inside another OS as well). It's a very nice Mac-ish interface with development tools, media players, and the all important web browser. I really don't see how you can't do much with it. Maybe not gaming (right now anyways), but as far as email, web, word processing, programming, almost anything else it all can be done on Be. It seems like nowadays if an OS doesn't have MS Office or 3dMark people say you can't do much with it.

Hmm, gonna be awfully hard to do much more than you can right now with it though..........according to CNet, Wired, PCMag, etc. they've halted further developement........I messed with it a few times, it was nice to play with, functional, and seemed very fast! Kind of a shame they abandoned it.......

You could see the halt in development coming the they released it for free 🙁. I was really hoping they would have gotten out the new OpenGL stuff though (Radeon was REALLY shining in Be with the experimental OpenGL drivers). Oh well. Thankfully Linux can/will never trully go away unless every last user gives up on it. The beauty of open-source 🙂.

BeBits has alot of software/tools for BeOS.Dunno about your question though havent messed with Be since linux got ahold of me🙂
