Long story short, last night I was trying to take the ihs off my 3800 x2 and I bent a few of the pins, about 6 of them without noticing. So all I did was bend them right back to place and the cpu posts and works. The only problem is that the temps go crazy when its on load. No matter if I'm overclocked, underclocked or at stock the cpu climbs up to 80c slowly then shuts off. Now I'm thinking how the hell would the pins affect that? is it shorting it in someway? I've read many cases were pins fall off and the cpu works. Is there anything you guys can suggest to try?

Your hs was not put back on the right way. bent pins should do nothing if you bend them back.

I tried reseating back a few times but still no dice, I'll try again tonight, but there is definetely no way the pins should affect that right?

I have bent pins on my 3.0E numrous times, everytime time i take off the xp120 it yanks out the cpu bending about 6-7 pins (i think one more time and pins are gonna fall off). :( anyways, temps have never gone up because of that. Every time i've taken off the HS, ive cleaned the cpu, the HS and applied new AS5 and it all seems to be fine.

my 3.0E @3.7 with 1.48V idles at 37 and Full load at 48C, so it can't be the pins.

It's highly possible that this could be your issue here. Did you get the IHS off? If not did you damage it? If you did get it off is you HSF making contact with the core? etc...
