Bent Pins on X99 Board

My recent build with an Asus Rampage V motherboard worked flawlessly for 2 months and suddenly stopped working, displaying a "00" Q code. I sent the board back to ASUS on an RMA and they claim the board has bent pins. Is it possible that the board and processor (Intel i7 6850k) could worked for 2 months with bent pins on the motherboard? They now want $130 to replace the damage.

Did the board have the socket cover on when it was RMA'd? I myself find it hard to believe that pins could bend in normal use. The socket locks down the CPU quite tightly.

Yes, I had attached the grey plastic socket cover when I shipped the board. I just find it hard to believe that the board would work for 2 months with the pins bent.

I know right? You would have to use considerable amount of force on an intel cpu that's been clamped down in to socket to cause any kind of movement in the pins. Are you sure they were fine prior to shipping?

I wouldn't bet my 401k on it, but I did examine the board before I shipped it and the pins looked fine. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish I had taken a quick picture as proof of their condition.
