As I was taking the heatsink off( the one that came with the cpu) the cpu came with it, now I have bent pins.
I have tried and tried to straighten them out no luck.
Does any one know of a way to straighten them out. I tried a knife, credit card, tweezers no luck at all.is there a chance amd may let me rma the cpu, since it was their hs/f.
Thanks for any and all help/suggestuions

Try an rma if it has 3 year warranty. See what they say. Bending pins = bad. However, technically it wasnt something wrong with their cpu. 😛 Youre supposed to twist it and such before yanking it out.

Well, before RMA, don't ya wanna check out the potential of the chip? 😀
I'd try straighten it with a mechanical pencil. Take the lead out and the pin should just fit right in the hole of the pencil's tip. I've fixed a few bent pins that way in the past.

which pencil? .05? or .07?

Or if it's entire rows of bent pins, you can place the edge of a credit card inbetween the bent row and a good row and pry the entire line of bent pins at one time. This also keeps the row in alignment where doing them individually might result in a slightly zigzagged row.

How bad is the bending?

If it's 1-9, re-bend them, if they're SERIOUSLY bent (at more than a 60 degree angle) (Or there are more than ~10 of them) then RMA the chip, it isn't worth risking fixing it.
