Bent Pins? LGA775 Mobo

I have a mobo that won't even post, no Video displayed and no beeps. Both the chassis and CPU fans come on as well as the MOBO LED and the chassis' Power LED. I've tried Booting with my two sticks of RAM individually in each of the 4 memory slots and tried booting with nothing connected to the motherboard except the monitor - No HDD, No Optical, No Keyboard/Mouse, no PCI or PCI Express Cards. I've tried the same as above except I used my PCI Express video card. I've reset the CMOS multiple times and removed/reinserted the 24 and 4 PIN power connectors many times. I've also removed the HSF and CPU, cleaned and reapplied the paste and verified a good connection.

Just wanted to show that I've tried everything that I can think of up to this point.

This CPU/MOBO combo has never successfully run and was purchased in early 2004. I'm working with a P5GD1-VM motherboard and an Intel Pentium 4 520. Shortly after purchasing the cpu/mobo combo I had to sell it to my dad to make some quick cash before I could ever finish getting the other components for my system. He said that he tried to get it working, but it never worked.

I'm looking at the PINs on the motherboard and they all have an 'S' shape to them, is this how the LGA775 pins are supposed to be or are they supposed to be perfectly straight? Can anyone maybe provide me a link to a good high definition close up of an LGA 775 socket?

Uhoh... then every single pin on the board is bent... is that possible? And they are all bent in perfect unison, everything is all lined up in columns and rows. What would be the best way to fix that? An old credit card cut to fit?

I think they are in an "s" shape as to provide a "spring" type of action so you don't bend the pins.

Hmmm.... anyone happen to have a 775 mobo and a magnifying glass handy that can take a look at theirs to give a 100% answer?

Looking closer with the magnifying glass it does appear that they all have an 'S' shape to them with a little hook sort of at the top, they look sort of like this _/^ (Except with the ^ being moved up a bit). There is one pin that is noticeably different from the rest and I'm going to try to make it just like all of the other ones.

if they are all perfectly identical then it should be fine.. besides, as long as the pins are not touching each other, and ARE touching the correct contact on the CPU, then they don't need to be straight (it just so happens that if they aren't straight then they wouldn't be touching)..
although.. there is a limited amount of insertions that the board can handle... maybe going over it causes them all to bend uniformly...

did you plug ALL the power plugs to the mobo? what you described is what would happen if you plugged in the large power cable to the motherboard, but forgot to plug in the CPU/video card power cable (sometimes there is also a plug for connecting a video card power cable directly to the motherboard in ADDITION to the other two plugs)

I've gone through the mobo manual multiple times trying to find extra plugs that I might have missed, but no luck.

Something is wrong in denmark here. I truly don't think they're supposed to be bent at all. Seems to me that something was "smashed". Something like the HS to tight or something sat on it way to hard. Just don't add up?

Has anyone else looked at the pins through a magnifying glass? With my naked eye they look straight as an arrow, but with the magnifying glass I am able to see the 'S' shape... wish I had a good camera to take a close-up. I have another 775 mobo on the way and I'll compare whenever it gets here.

Upon ferther investigation and after checking out 2 motherboards, I will agree that after seeing the pins they do have a slight "s" curve to them. Now why, I dont really have a clue with the exception of the pressure that the cpu, when locked down, has on them.

Same thing happened to me. It seemed that my CPU was bad. I tried the same exact things you tried to figure out what was bad. I too was confused by the S shape pins.

Op, do you have another CPU that you can put into your board to see if it posts? And, is the bios up to date for that board? ( that's asuming you get it up and running )

Nope, I do have another mobo coming later this week (ASRock 775Dual-VSTA) and I'll be trying out the CPU in that. Will also take a look at the pins prior to installing anything to see if they have the S curve to them. No way for me to update the bios - this board has never booted once and it is way outside the RMA time :(

Well that is good that you have another board coming to see if its the cpu or not. As for pins, I'm sure now that they are in such a way for "a good contact" purpose. Keep us informed!:)
