Bent pin on an opty 148

It's one pin and it's barely bent. Drops into the 939 socket with a gentle nudge.

If I get errors, what would they be?

Is it POST or no POST? Intermittent trouble? Ideas?

Pull the processor out, straighten the pin with a mechanical pencil, put the cpu back in, cease worrying.

(Sorry I should have posted more info to start.)

I'm not particularly worried. I'm just wondering what type of errors, if any, I could expect. The system will POST intermittently and I haven?t even gotten close to a Windows install yet. I'm trying to figure out if the bent pin might be the issue or is it something else (like the mobo).

Specs:
DFI LanpartyUT nF4 Ultra-D
AMD Opteron 148 (2.2 GHz 1MB L2 Cache)
2 x 1GB DDR (500) PC-4000 Corsair
Nvidia EVGA 7900GT
NEC Black DVD+/-RW ND-3540A
WD 160gb - SATA
Antec TruePower 2.0 550 watt EPS12V

I?ve switched out every part except the CPU and mobo with parts that are known to work on my other system (see sig). Just trying to narrow things down.

If the pin still goes into the correct hole, it should be fine. I wouldn't even bother straightening it, until the next time you have to remove the HSF (whenever that may be).

That's what I thought too, but this is the first time I've dealt with a bent pin. I figured it would either POST or not. But this build has been nothing but a big hassle.

agreed.

if you have contact, you have contact. the only thing i would be worried about is if you're horrible at straigthening pins and break it off....that wouldn't be good

Yup, a mech pencil works great. Sure beats a pair of needle-nose pliers.
