The holiday's are coming up, and I plan to upgrade my monitor to an ultrawide screen for fast-paced First Person Shooters I play. I need a 144hz refresh rate, as I won't go back to 60hz. I'm happy with 1080p at 144hz as I have now, I just want the wider screen.

I can't decide between the BenQ XR3501 and the Acer Z35 35" curved monitors. As I understand, they use the same panel.

The BenQ is out of stock everywhere, and the Acer is coming out this December.

Which is the better choice?

If you want G-sync get z35 if you want to save some money and don't plan to use G-sync get XR3501.

The resolution on both of them is quite low. If you're at 27" 1080p and don't feel there are any issues, I say go for it. But if you're using a 24" 1080p monitor right now, you'll notice a lot more blurryness and loss of image quality.

There are higher resolution widescreen monitors with fast refreshes. They cost a fortune, but they are worth it. Like the Acer Predator Z35.

What card will you be using to drive the display?

I'm also looking for a new display and have been checking out the options lately like those you've mentioned. I've pretty much settled on these features:

- 21:9
- G-sync
- 100+Hz
- 1440 px height

The only thing I'm concerned about is will a single 980 TI power this, I know pure 4K @ 60Hz isn't doable without SLI in my case but hitting 1440 @ 100Hz I would image is within reason.

The Acer Predator X34 was interesting but native 75Hz (although many have had luck with 100Hz overclock) kinda made me hold off; this is probably at the top of my list at the moment (when it gets back in stock).

The Asus PG348Q should be released any day now but suffers from the same 100Hz overclock refresh gamble.

The Z35 has the awesome 144Hz refresh, but according to http://www.anandtech.com/show/9303/nvidia-launches-mobile-gsync it looks like it 1080 UGH. If this was 1440 I'd be all over it. It looks like this and the BenQ aren't really what I'm looking for.

Honestly 1080 @ 35 inches is pretty crappy density. I would either wait for a high refresh rate 35" @ 1440 or forget the 21:9 and go with something like an Acer XB270HU (27", 2560x1440, 144Hz)

Side question for anyone with a 21:9, it seems support is spotty at best for this. While it does seem to be the cool kid on the block do you run into a lot of issues / hack problems trying to get this to work? I'm really digging it but it feels like a bit of a gamble if support will improve for it in the future.

You should try it for yourself before listening to all the people complaining about low pixel density. I'm using both a 32" and a 40" 1080p display at computer-monitor-distance and for gaming it's never bothered me. I'm normally playing on 3 1080p 24" monitors, and can't wait to get my preordered Z35. Tired of fighting against Eyefinity/Surround, and bezels make certain games a lot less enjoyable.

I initially preordered the X34, but:
- My 980Ti cannot possibly run upcoming games at that resolution; motherboard doesn't SLI
- I didn't like the IPS glow
- I prefer the 2000R curve
- Matte vs. shiny plastic

I have the XR3501 so if you have any questions ask away. I will say aside from the 1080p resolution the screen is really nice. Doesn't really have the "glow" that IPS panels have and the colors are great on it. I would have loved for it to be 1440p, but I doubt I could push 100+fps at that resolution anyway and the lower resolution doesn't really bother me that much. Then again I've never had a 1440p monitor so maybe I just don't know what I'm missing...
