Hi all,

I recently purchased a new BenQ XL2730Z Freesync monitor through amazon.de. My monitor came on friday but I had to send it back immediately, because I would have crazy flickering and picture problems when I was running it at 120 and even worse on 144 Hz. Also the Blur Reduction enable would result in "blinking" display. Today I received my replacement monitor (kudos to amazon for shipping so fast). The issues are somewhat better (picture not as corrupted and Blur Reduction works), but I still can't really use the 144 Hz. I'm beginning to ask myself, whether there is some problem withy my Powercolor R9 290X Crossfire setup? Should I send the monitor back yet again? I've been reading the Forums about the Asus G-Sync Monitor, which supposedly uses the same 2560x1440 TN panel and a lot of people complain about quality issues. Maybe this is some problem with the panel?

Edit: guess I'm not alone http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/323677-benq-xl2730z-144hz-bad-flicker-problem/

there are a few work arounds; OCUK got a sub for it....also looks like 19th of march is new drivers for AMD to fully drive the monitor and fix other issues.

I'll see if I can find the sub for you...

I'm not sure if the Freesync driver will resolve anything. I mean I have problems (as others) running it at 144Hz out of the box.

Well I had my third replacement. Still not good. The second monitor seemed to work a little bit better. I'm getting a full refund now. Not happy though.

That could only be a step up from my XL2420Z, for which I paid $110 less (approximately).

All of the BenQ monitors elicit complaints because they're not well-tuned when you open the box. But you can quickly learn maybe three things:

How to use the S Switch to manipulate the OSD so you're not fumbling around with infrared-sensor-equipped "switch points" on the side of the monitor.

How to calibrate the monitor color and picture; how to set the brightness and contrast, and which Picture Mode and Display Mode to use, either for all-around purposes or gaming.

How to upload the special gaming profiles.

For a fourth item, there's the Display Pilot software, which also changes settings in the OSD and allows building custom profiles or "Presets."

Now that I've got the hang of it, I find these monitors a total dream with which to work (or play!) I'm actually using the "Input" submenu as a "custom key" that pops up at the top of the initial menu list -- to supplement a 20-year-old KVM switch by providing the video switching. I've had one PC @ 60 Hz refresh rate, and this one variously at 120 and 144.

If I have any problems, its the lag in revisions for my graphics-brand's tweaking software and the latest NVidia driver. But that's in another thread (or two or three). At this point, the monitor isn't presenting me with any problems for burying those software shortcomings and circumventing them with temporary alternates.

BenQ? Maybe I've been stale on display technology for far too long, but I'm impressed . . . . impressed . . . .

PS If you're having problems with that XL2730Z and you think it may have something to do with your graphics adapter, maybe you might want to look at the XL2720Z. If not -- that's what people do. I didn't buy MSI products for about 10 years until I got these 970 GTX cards, because one of their graphics cards was just a glitzy, blingy sour grape. Maybe you might want to look at one of the ASUS models, but I couldn't offer guidance there.

I have the same problem with a r9 280x and also got it from amazon.de.
With the cru fix I managed to get it stable at 1440p 89 hz with displayport, everything above that makes the screen go randomly black mixed with some artifacts.

I tried 15.3 and 15.4 but it doesnt fix anything, did anyone manage to find another solution or know if there's a driver fix in the works,or is it just a faulty screen ?

I have the same monitor with no issues.

But I only run it at those frequencies on the game via the game control panel.

Not in the desktop.

No I never had. Although an explanation was given with the AMD Driver, I still don't think it is nice from BenQ to not acknowledge that problem. I mean they must have tested the monitor and they are advertising it as Freesync capable. Couldn't they put a little leaflet in their saying "you have to wait for the AMD Freesync driver."?

Also still no Freesync for Crossfire rigs (running two 290X here) and the problems with the high input lag. I'm going to sit this on out a few months until everything works as advertised.

Are there any standalone drivers for XL2730Z? I'm using Asus GTX 980 video card. I've only seen a compatible driver for AMD video cards.
