Benq FP241W - glossy or not?

I picked up 2 NEC 90gx2 LCDs today to replace my old CRTs. They're great, but I'm thinking I'd probably like to have one large display rather than two smaller ones, despite the actual real estate value that two 1280x1024 desktops provide. The Benq looks like a great monitor and the price should be competitive with the Dell 2407FPW. I lust after glossy LCDs, but I can't find any information on this monitor having a coating. I'm guessing it'll have a plain matte finish like most LCDs, but I have my fingers crossed. Can anyone confirm what the display will look like?

You had me all excited.

But it can't be glossy.

Nothing in the specs/description indicates that whatsoever :(

When a 1920x1200+ glossy finish display does come out though, i will be all over it in a heartbeat.

I really don't know what's so difficult about it... why can't manufacturers just slap a coating on the screen and be done with it?

Cost likely.

Don't worry though.

Glossy finishes have completely taken over the notebook display market in a short 2.5 years roughly.

IOW, we won't see fewer glossy panels in teh future, but rather, we'll eventually see more.

It's just a matter of damn time :(

The coating on several laptops is generally only $25-$50 more. That's certainly a tiny premium for what you're getting, IMO. FWIW, the NECs have very little glare - certainly nothing that I notice unless I'm looking for it.
