benq dw1640

Hello all

I see a BenQ DW1655 drive in the paper today on sale for $49.99 CDN. (Future Shop)

edit: this turned out to be a mistake... the future site website was advertising the DW1655 while the flyer did not specify which model #...the 1640s were on sale, the 1655s were going for 69.99.[/b]

I can't seem to find any reviews on this yet... is it as good as the DW1640 drives were? Is it essentially an upgrade? I'm comtemplating on going to pick one up but I want to make sure it is Anandtech-approved first! 😉

Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide comment.

EDIT: see below, ended up getting the DW1640 and am very happy with it so far

well, i have a feeling this is a smoking hot deal. i'm going to pick one up. i don't want to wait too long - i think they'll run out today for sure!!

well, ended up getting the DW1640 anyway. Installed and running like a champ!

The DW1655 was on for 69.99 - the only difference I could find was that the 1655 has Lightscribe technology.

this drive performs nicely.

while downloading and seeding multiple torrents (downloading at a combined rate of over 100kb/s), this DW1640 burned approx. 4 GB of data in 5:40. there were no hiccups at all in terms of buffer level. this drive is super smooth!

:Q

the benQ 1640 is a good drive i am RMA'ing mine because it doesnt read dvd's but trust me there good drives i'd take one over an NEC.
