BenQ DVD drive not reading discs?

A couple of days ago I noticed my DVD drive wouldn't read/burn any dics. I did a good amount of DVD burns in the previous days, but now it acts as if there isn't even a disc in the drive. I've tried uninstalling the hardware and reinstalling it, upgrading the firmware, and it still won't read the discs?

Any suggestions or is it time to bust out the warranty?

It's a DW1620.

Sometimes, the setting gets changed for some reason.

Check to see if it's set as PIO or DMA (Hardware Device Manager), and change it accordingly if needed.

Usually they're set as DMA, but I've had DMA DVD drives only work properly as PIO before.

Generally those were older drives though.

If the CD part still works, your DVD laser is probably dead. Time for an RMA.

QFT. Even if the CD part doesn't work...I'd still RMA it. The DQ1620 is a pretty old drive, and if you've done considerable burning in the past, I wouldnt be surprised if it died on you.
