Do you plan to use DVD-RAM? I have no use for it, so it isn't a factor for me. If you will use it, then get the BenQ. If not, either one will serve you well.

I guess if having the last BenQ mfg. drive means something, pick that one. For me, I'd just get the NEC... I've had good results with a few of their recent drives, so I'd just stick with them.

I have another of their drives in my old machine and have had great luck, so I was leaning that way anyway. Probably will just stick with what I know in this case.

what purpose does DVD-RAM serve anyway? I had not heard of it until I looked at the Benq burner I referenced.

As long as Liggy&Dee are around churning out modified firmware for these NEC drives, they're probably the best drives to get.

Nice. I was wondering when NEC was going to come out with a new drive.

The Benq DQ series are nowhere near as good as the 16xx series - unless they came out with a magic firmware since the early reviews.
