so i've had this drive a while, and it's always been kind of flaky - already been rma'd once - now it's started to exhibit the following:
- won't even show up under windows vista - not under "computer", not even under device manager!
- under windows xp, it shows up under "my computer" but doesn't recognize any of the discs i put in it - either cd or dvd - that are read just fine by my other optical drive.
- sometimes seems to take my other optical drive out with it - both are on the same ide cable, no extra ide ports on motherboard - sometimes they both just disappear from "my compter". takes a reboot to bring them back.
problem is, i'm past warranty now, so probably no chance of getting benq to fix it, and even if they did, i'm not sure i want to keep screwing with it. i guess my reason for posting is:
1) anyone else have similar issues with this drive, or any other?
2) anyone have suggestions on how to fix it, short of rma'ing the darn thing?
and finally,
3) anyone have any suggestions for a good cd/dvd writer that has lightscribe capabilities, and comes with a black face plate? (anything but benq!)
