benQ 1620 dvd-rw help!

isp

Senior member
I bought a benQ 1620 off newegg the other day during their special for $51.

I just installed it, windows detects it fine, no problems under device manager.

I can't get anything to be read from it, not the nero cd that came with it, not a blank cd, not a DVD....

This is pretty frustrating. I flashed the drive to the b7t9 fw and nothing works still.

I don't know what to do, is it DOA or how can I get this thing to work?

edit: There is a small crack on the far left side of the face I noticed too while putting it in. Could of been roughed up during shipping? This hasn't been my month so far...lot of stuff going wrong.

its prob not the drive
weve had two posts just like this in the last few days
try a search

you could clean your filters, if there:
4) Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values by:

a) Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it.

b) Expand the "SYSTEM" Key

c) Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key

d) Expand the "Control" Key

e) Expand the "Class" Key

f) Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
g) High light this key by left clicking once on it

h) On the right hand side you are looking for "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters", once you find these please delete them by high lighting (left clicking on them once) and then right clicking on them and choosing "delete"

5) Restart your computer.

Yours is probably dead. I got the same drive & mines works perfectly fine except it randomly burns slow sometimes. Burned 6 dvds so far today, 4 burned in a little over 6 minutes at 12x, and then for some odd reason 2 burned in over 16 minutes at 12x...

Yeah I'm thinking it's DOA for sure now. I took it out and while I was moving it I heard something rattling around in there. That can't be right?

hmmm is this normal? I remember having that happen on my sony burner where it says burning at 4x but burns at 2x. I hope that burner has great compatibility (speed) with lots of media cause I'm thinking getting that to replace my old drive. 😀

Have you tried updating the firmware?
I once had a brand new Plextor that did the same thing, until I flashed the firmware. Now it's rock solid.
