Benefits of USB Keyboard/Mouse???

I have a Belkin USB keyboard and a Logitech (Wireless) USB Mouse. Both of these are hooked up to my computer with their included USB -->PS/2 adapters. My question is, what is the benefit of hooking up my keyboard and/or mouse to a USB port? This has been bugging me ever since I got my keyboard lol. Thanks, Josh

I've found one of the great 'benefits' of having a USB keyboard is, my motherboard won't recognize it as a keyboard to Wake from S3 sleep mode.... Works fine w/ a PS2 keyboard though... Ugh. I think I could set it up to wake from USB... somehow? I'm not sure. There's no actual advantage of USB over PS2 for a keyboard.

as i mentioned months ago, the only benefit i can think of is that when you connect the logitech mouse using the adapter to PS2, it's pretty easy to fall off... i've tried that before and so i went with USB

So there really is no "performance" gain? And about the logitech adapter, it does tend to come out of the PS/2 plug lol.

logitech claims that usb does provide some special stuff... i think its bull tho

My mouse has usb, but I use the included usb--ps2 adapter. It's fine. No gain going to USB except for extra drivers to mess with.

As for keyboards, I found that usb is probably not what limits one from pushing many buttons at once. On my MS Internet kbrd, I can push many buttons without it messing up, whereas my previous liteon keyboard would funk out, as would a memorex kbrd I got.

I notice that when I type really fast, I hit more than one button, and my computer beeps. I wonder if I hook it up to USB it would work better... Also what it does is sometimes when I type fast and press a couple buttons at once, it acts like im holding down the shift button (like if I press the number 1 it displays !, and it types in caps), so I have to press shift to get it back to normal. Thanks for the insight lol!

Don't quote me on this, but I remember a pretty lengthy discussion about USB vs. PS/2 about a year ago. I believe the big "buzz" about the Logitech MX series was they could send/receive data faster than the PS/2 bus (60Hz?) and could fully benefit from the 150Hz (??) USB bus. The only real negatives I can think of about USB over PS/2 is if you are running out of available USB ports and some older mobos have trouble recognizing USB mouse and keyboards while working in the BIOS or during Windows installations.

from what i remember the ps2 mouseport can have its buffer overloaded when systems underburden and resulting behavior is worse then if u used usb. no point in using ps2.

The only thing I can think of is you free up an IRQ by using the USB ports.
