Benefits in using Correct Monitor "Driver"?

I cannot find a driver file for my new TFT monitor, is there any benefit in using a driver file over Plug and Play or Default monitor? It's almost like it's not a full drive generally I think...just an inf file with parameters in it.

I have an Acer AL707 btw...

Generally the monitor "driver" is just an inf with a list of parameters that adds to the table in the monitor setup section of screen properties.
. You can punch in your own parameters if the Acer isn't on the list or maybe download the Acer .inf which should cover all of their older monitors. I think most of the newer ones just go with PlugNPray which I guess uses a Win internal table - perhaps there is an update for that on the MS site....

You can also try one of those programs like Powerstrip. Powerstrip in case you don't know is a little program that uses its own drivers for your monitor and vid card. It has access to all the features and is defintely for the experienced user. You can overclock your vid card, and ramp up refresh rates on your monitor like crazy... you might want to try that. It is pretty good at detecting your hardware properly.
