yes, but the average american doesn't automatically think of beckham, let alone know who the hell he is. at best, beckham is one of the spice girls, but they've faded from the public mind already.

I hated that movie with a passion... For a start, there was no actual football in the movie, just bizzare montages of stunt-double legs performing fairly insipid football 'skills.'
Then there's the fact that the whole movie is an exercise in packing as many racial stereotypes and chick-flick clichés into the smallest possible space at the expense of anything vaguely resembling a plot...

Oh come on now, it wasn't all that bad. Some of their cultural stuff in the movie was funny. The mom praying over the picture of the prophet or god or whoever he was was hilarious. I wasn't expecting a soccer movie, so maybe i'd be pissed if i was.

In Germany, the movie was released as "Kick it like Beckham"

That might get your drunk selves into the thinking motion.. (in case it doesnt, no probs..after all, its Friday evening!)

The phrase is because David Beckham can kick a free kick in a way that the ball curves extremely. The curve is so extreme they say he bends the ball.
