Are there any benchmarks comparing these two cards in HL2?

the 128mb is like $100 cheaper and if it does the job fine, that's my card.

I think you're gonna have to wait one more week to get an answer to that. At least if the HL2 demo/benchmark is released as planned then.

Don't worry about this...

ALL currently available cards are going to be too slow for this game for the hardcore people that actually play the roles of the game!

Look how long it took before systems could break 120FPS in Q3 with highest quality settings. Most hardcore fraggers were running 640x480! :Q

HL2 probably won't run acceptably to satisfy those users until R450/NV50 debut!

Cheers!

From what I seen, it should run fairly nice with a 9600 pro+ with good eye candy.

I would get the 128mb version of the 9800 pro, in other benchmarks, the extra memory doesn't seem to help at all

i have a gf3 ti200 128mb right now. After the 9800 pro 128mb takes a price dip ill try to get on it.

and yeah... for quake3 it took about 6-12 months before a card came out letting the game be playable at high fps, high res and high detail.

but as long as i get 1024x768 with med detail and like 60-70 fps i guess thats cool.

True, but I guess it all depends on what frame rate people need to play games. If they are fine with 60 FPS or so then the 9800 will do fine for them at 1024x768. If they need a higher rate, then yes, they will have to wait for some newer cards.

9800TX erm or something is lanuched, on paper anyway, the same day as HL2. probably. Might be worth waiting until then, fir starters the XT, TX or wth ever it is will presumably replace the 9800pro for pricing and 9600XT, if there is one, mightbe best value for money.

Either way you'll get the benchies so can make a more informed purchase :)

Wow I'm just SO in the know about graphica cards atm. ;)

i think 9800 pro is fine for the game, it is nvidia owner who have reason to worry with HL2
