Ive been benchmarking for years now and i was just wondering... is there any special way to startup. Like startup with minimal services and programs running.

I've seen tweaking guides for WinXP/2000... try googling it. Basically, you can go in and disable just about every system service, and there are a few registry hacks you can do as well to disable even more stuff. I doubt this stuff makes *that* much difference except at the very high end of 3DMark01 (and maybe a few other benchmarks, like Quake3, which are highly CPU-limited). For something like 3DMark03, which is limited almost exclusively by your video card, it won't make much difference (if any).

I would suggest going the other way. Run it like it was meant to be run. Load a specific version and signatures of an anti-virus package. Make it look like a real machine. That way, it looks like it will in the wild. A real benchmark that would give real performance. Some things work great in a lab, but put them in the real ocean and they sink.

But if you don't like that answer, to answer your question, find EndItAll2. It will list what is running and allow you to kill most of it.

Don't bother with services and similar, just disable background programs and keep your drivers up to date.
