Benchmarking with Quake3

OverDose

Member
I just installed it and installed the latest update from idsoftware, i set all the options to max and 1024x768x32, now how do i run a benchmark?

I ran a demo but that doesn't report FPS

it's a console string or something isn't it?

Launch Q3, then hit the tilde key ("~"; above the left Tab)

Type "timedemo 1" (no quotes) and hit enter.

set the game with whichever setting you want, go into the "Demos" section, and launch a demo. Let it run through the demo and go back to the main screen, then hit the Tilde key again. The last line will show the fps.

ok, I pumped all the options to max and set the resolution to 1024x768x32, trilinear etc and i got 180fps in 7.5 seconds, isn't that kinda crappy?

I get 8511 3dmarks...

You got 185FPS... if that's crappy then I don't even want to imagine what it must take for you to achieve acceptable performance 😉

BTW, remember if you want to compare it to published benchmarks on review sites you should disable the sound.

Fine, turn on 64 tap anisotropic filtering and 4X anti aliasing in your geforce control menu. Then play the quake demo at the highest 32 bit resolution with maxed game options and settings.

185fps is not crappy...

If you changed your quake settings to "High quality" and not "custom", then turned off sound and all anti aliasing eye candy. Then used 1024x768x32.. you'd prob hit 200.
