Yeah, I'm a compulsive deleter. Some stuff I save on an old SSD if I think I might need it again later, but for stuff that's widely-available on the Internet and archived, I don't bother.

Regardless, someone looking to benchmark their system anew who hasn't yet downloaded the file will find that Google Drive won't play ball. Which is a shame.

et voila. we can all host the file and round robin it :p

At least now we have a second source. Thanks!

@Hulk

Here's a run running on the same 3900x @ static OC of 4.350 GHz:

encoded 1806 frames in 191.78s (9.42 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

also just noting that for all my previous runs I was patched for spectre and meltdown, but those fixes are supposed to incur a "potentially significant" performance penalty on my hardware, so I ran another test after disabling them (using inspectre.exe) and rebooting. I actually did get a performance improvement...
from my old score in handbrake 1.1.0 of -->
encoded 1806 frames in 902.22s (2.00 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

to my best score using 1.1.0 thanks to disabling the security mitigations
encoded 1806 frames in 877.63s (2.06 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

This was done on my w3670 again, also this is the first time i watched the test as it ran, and noticed that CPU usage bounced between 100 and low 90s, but my clockspeed stayed a steady 4.0GHz. In the screenshots, task manager incorrectly reads my cpu speed, I think it has to do with having my baseclock increased rather than increasing the multiplier (which is a more modern way of overclocking...my multiplier is locked, highest I can go is x25 on all cores or x26 on one core so I have to increase the baseclock instead)
In the screenshots below, you can see all the dips in task manager-->
Untitled.jpgUntitlemd.jpgUntitlemmmmd.jpg
I feel like disabling security updates is getting to the point where I'm trying to cheat the system or something to try and get slightly higher scores though

@Junky228

If your system isn't in a mission-critical environment where it might be subject to direct attempts to compromise security, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Main issue is whether or not you use a web browser that's patched against js exploits designed to take advantage of spectre/meltdown. If you are using such a browser, you could probably run with the mitigations disabled all the time and be relatively safe. Probably.

I saw the ? for the GHz in my results. I have it set to PBO +200 MHz with the power limits raised. The actual CPU speed varies between 3.9 and 4.2 GHz depending on the load and temperature. Here is a screenshot of Ryzen master for my settings.

Just looking for an average speed during the run? 4.05 seem reasonable?

Please check task manager and see what your average speed seems to be when running the test and let me know. I"ll post your score!

That's not an accurate way of showing the clock frequency either. Windows task manager "Speed" is actually very inaccurate when it comes to Zen unless you dumb it down by running an allcore oc. As I type this, task manager is showing 4.2ghz and yet no cores are effectively over 1.5ghz. :rolleyes:

@thesmokingman,

That's a really nice utility. If anyone wants to update their average cpu usage using that program just post it and I'll update the chart. You can log CPU usage and see average cpu usage in the log. For my Surface Laptop 2 this utility and task manager showed the same cpu frequency.

@Hulk

During my 3800 MHz CL15 memory testing I decided to run some encoding tests for stability.

encoded 1806 frames in 284.38s (6.35 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

Here's what HWINFO64 shows as the true clocks. I reset the data after the run started and snipped it at 99%

clocks.PNG

Overall average for the run would be 3838 MHz while task manager was showing a steady 4.18 GHz.

Don't use task manager to determine the clocks during the run as it's misleading.

Not sure if my results are even valid but i got the following

i5 8400t
16gb 2666 crucial cl 16

Was running pretty well then like 14 seconds before i could finish i got a nice error.Has happened twice to me at the exact moment but at the 14 second till finish point i was hitting 2.8fps while lowest number was 2.4 during the run. Not gonna bother troubleshooting it as i don't encode normally. I wanted to see where the 8400t landed. Nice to see chart wise its hitting 4790k 4.5ghz numbers while sitting under 48cel passively cooled on the hottest core.

The 8400t eventually is landing into a htpc but for the moment its my primary chip. Oh for those curious the 8400t boosts to 3ghz on all cores during heavy loads. Got it cheap and figured it would be fun to toy with.

3950X in sig,
encoded 1806 frames in 163.24s (11.06 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09
Average clockspeed during the encode bounced around all over the place usually between 3.5 and 3.9GHz I'd say.

Ran it again using the average effective clockspeed monitoring app linked to above, looks like it's about 3.975Ghz overall and ended up with the below result.
encoded 1806 frames in 162.41s (11.12 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

@sdifox Thanks for mirroring the video!

encoded 1806 frames in 141.12s (12.80 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

Using 24/7 stable settings:
CPU: Direct die custom water cooled Intel i9 7980XE @ 4.8GHz 1.265v with no AVX2 offset (-2 AVX 512)
RAM: 64GB G.Skill 2800MHz DDR4 generic (holdover, G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14 is in storage)

Fun note: CPU package power peaked at 400W during this run, poor intel!

I'm not sure when you started and stopped HWiNFO? I would say start Handbrake, then click the "clock" (reset) on HWiNFO. Finally just as Handbrake finishes grab the screen capture so the average CPU frequency reported were during the Handbrake run.

Lol 400W. No melting plastic smell?

@Hulk you have me in the chart a couple of times. You can delete them and just include my results below.

Clocks were verified with HWiNFO and are a average of all the cores.

3.81 GHz
encoded 1806 frames in 292.34s (6.18 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

3.97 GHz average of all cores verified with HWiNFO
encoded 1806 frames in 279.43s (6.46 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

Ran again, timed HWiNFO as requested:
encoded 1806 frames in 140.33s (12.87 fps), 11820.04 kb/s, Avg QP:29.09

No, but I swear I heard mother nature groan in disgust :p

Do you know what frequency your CPU was at during the run?
