Why would you bother?
Windows 10 Pro supports 2 cpus and up to 256 cores, 2tb ram
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations supports 4 cpus, 256 cores and up to 6tb ram
And those are real cores, hyper-threads are twice that amount.

Server 2019 essentials is $501. If I really needed it, I could afford it, as I already have $4k in that box with 64 cores. But it is doing what I need right now, and I don't want to spend days playing with this software just to prove a point. I think the 3960x proved it. My 64 cores are about the same as the 32 of the 3970x.

Then you need to ask yourself, how could one individual actually honestly need a datacenter server OS or even a server OS?

Nice chart! but the 1700 (1700x/1800x) is an 8 core 16 thread CPU. The 1600 (1600x) is the 6 core 12 thread CPU in the 1xxx family.

Then you use Windows 10 Pro for Workstations (or Windows 10 Enterprise, if you're a sadist :) )
Both have been available since at least 11/2017 and support up to 4 cpus of Xeon or AMD flavor (including EPYC)
Up to 256 (real) cores and up to 6tb ram
I sincerely doubt your system is outside those specs, right ;)

I have a datacenter licence because it allowed me to spawn a lot of vm server 2012? Otherwise I would have to licence some other version of windows on top of the datacenter licence.

I do do work on it, not purely a toy.

I did buy 2 eaton 5kva active ups plus 4 battery modules and 2 44u racks from a production company auction :awe:. Integration is still WIP.

Eventually I should be able to turn off the furnance and just circulate air through my stack for home heating :awe:

Oh I didn't mean you personally. Was more commenting on MS licensing.

Think about 44U stack of 64 core x2 1u servers.

(Windows 10 as with other Windows versions (other than Datacenter) has a hardcoded limit of 1024 vm's, I'm pretty sure that is enough for you)
Legit keys are cheap for Windows 7 and 8, and still allow free upgrades to Windows 10 for the foreseeable future.

I just hate to see people waste money on an OS, that could be put into hardware ;)

Your needs are not the same as my needs. I am simulating multiple dc and sites. I actually don't need higher end server right now since like you said, I am one guy. But eventually I will need to get out of 2012 and probably will be on an off lease Epyc Rome 64 core.

huh, re-ran it today, didn't change anything, I don't remember if I was writing to local drive last time, but I wrote to same dir this time. Stock 3700X, I wouldn't know what clock it encoded in.

Right-click taskbar>Task Manager>Performance tab
Watch the transcode for a minute or so and report your average CPU load.

it will never be your full boost clock so for all cores just over 4Ghz sounds about right.

I also notice the scores move up and down abit so best to run 3 then take the average
